Use an Item

Neely‘s Bar Key

Using an item, normally a key, is the most common way to open locked doors. Interacting with a locked door will prompt you to use an item.

If you have the right item in your inventory, just select it when prompted and the door will unlock. Items used to unlock doors can be obtained by picking them up from specific places or solving puzzles.

Solving puzzles is another way to open locked doors in Silent Hill. Some doors are directly tied to a puzzle and don't require an item to unlock them.

There is a wide variety of puzzles in the game and can involve figuring out a combination to a lock solving a riddle.

Not All Doors Can Be Opened

Map Markings
Some doors will remain locked by the time you reach the end of Silent Hill 2 Remake. A few of them can be unlocked on a New Game Plus run to achieve other endings, but most locked rooms and buildings will remain inaccessible.
