Use ZR/A to Shoot
Your primary way of dealing damage will be with shots fired from Samus' arm cannon, using the ZR or A buttons to fire at enemies. You can hold down the buttons to fire continuously.
Holding down the buttons for a long enough period will cause Samus to charge a stronger shot that deals more damage in a small area.
Aim With Right Joystick or Lock-On With ZL
To aim your shots, you can use the Right Joystick to move the reticle. You can also press and hold ZL to lock onto the target closest to the reticle, and Samus will aim at the locked-on target for as long as you hold ZL.
Pay Attention to the HUD
The heads-up display (HUD) shows you your current health and special ammo, as well as a mini-map that pinpoints enemy locations. It is recommended to check these in combat when you can, as if your health falls to 0, you will be forced to respawn at a previous checkpoint.
Strafe to Avoid Damage
When fighting, avoid standing still as this makes you an easy target for enemies. Instead, constantly move left and right to strafe around your opponents, decreasing your chances of getting hit.
Dash With B Twice When Locked On
In addition to constantly moving in combat, you can dash in the direction you're moving in by double-tapping the B button while locked-on. Do this to evade enemy attacks, and stay out of reach if any have gotten too close.

Use the Missile to Deal More Damage
Missiles are a limited, but powerful sub-weapon that can deal a burst of damage to your targets. While not spammable, don't be afraid to use Missiles in combat as enemies can drop Missile ammo when defeated.
How to Unlock Missile Launcher
Use Fire Shot for Damage Over Time
When unlocked, the Fire Shot consumes elemental ammo to light the target on fire, dealing extra damage to it while it burns. Open with a Fire Shot then switch back to regular shots to have the burn deal damage over time.
Swap to Ice Shot to Freeze Enemies
Similarly, the Ice Shot carries extra combat utility by freezing targets in place, stopping them from attacking and making them easy targets for your follow-up shots.
Collect Upgrades to Boost Combat Power
Throughout Viewros, there are various puzzles that Samus can complete to earn upgrades to her combat abilities. These enclude enhanced elemental shots and missiles, giving her a greater edge in combat when obtained.
