Add to Watchlist

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond Best Controller and Scheme to Use
The standard Joy-Con 2 controllers offer the best versatility and seamlessly switch between modes when playing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. See the best controller, control scheme, and their pros and cons here!

Best Controller to Use

Nintendo Joy-Con 2 for Versatility

The Nintendo Joy-Con 2 provides the best gaming experience for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, as it seamlessly ties together the different control schemes you can use to experience Viewros through Samus' eyes.

By simply shifting how you hold the controller, you can play with dual stick, pointer, or mouse controls.

Pro Controller for Dual Stick Experience

Pro Controller 2
The Pro Controller is highly recommended for players who want to stick to the traditional Dual Stick controls. It can be used for the tabletop and docked modes when gaming, and it also has motion sensors for aiming with pointer controls.

We suggest using it if you have it, especially if you have the Switch 1 Edition of the game or prefer not to use Mouse Controls.

Best Control Scheme To Use

Use the Most Comfortable Setup For You

Any Control Scheme Works
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is best enjoyed with the setup you're most comfortable with. That said, the Pointer Control Scheme is a good starting point, as it provides a faster way to pan and aim the camera with. Since the game is mainly a First Person Shooter, it benefits a lot from the quicker reflexes this mode gives.

All Control Schemes Pros and Cons

There are three control schemes that you can utilize in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond to experience the game. Check out the different pros and cons to see which one is the best control scheme for you.

List of Controls (Dual Stick, Gyro Motion, and Mouse)

Dual Stick Controls

Pros Cons
Familiar Layout

Comfortable on all Switch Modes

Stable Camera Movement

Has Gyro Motion by Holding the ZL Button
Hard and Slow Aim

Difficult on Floating Enemies

Dual Stick controls are the standard layout for most games and are well-integrated in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Control Samus' movement with the left joy-stick and the camera with the right joy-stick. With this setup, most action is done with just your fingers.

The mode isn't tied to just joystick controls, however, as you can do motion controls with the right Joy-Con after locking on with the ZL button.

Pointer Controls

Pros Cons
Similar Feel to the Wii Remote

Great for Tabletop and Docked Mode

Fast Precision Aiming
Hard in Handheld Mode

Unstable Camera Movement

Pointer Controls provides a better experience for users with its haptic feedback. You get to control Samus' aim by moving the right Joy-Con around. Simply pan the camera by pointing to the left or right to see the environment around you.

Do note that this scheme is only ideal if you have the necessary space to wave around your Joy-Con. Make sure to insert the wrist strap to avoid unwanted injuries and damage.

Mouse Controls

Pros Cons
Familiar Setup for PC FPS Games

Best on Tabletop Mode

Fast Precision Aiming
Not Possible in Handheld Mode

Requires a Flat Surface

Mouse Controls are exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch 2 and gives a familiar experience to what PC users are used to. Do note that you need to play on a flat surface for the feature to work and to keep the controller safe from damage.
