Archaludon's Steel/Dragon type combination reduces the damage it takes from over half of the Move types in the game. It also has a high Defense stat that can be paired with Stamina, making it a bane of physical attackers.
Archaludon is likely to get outsped by faster special attackers due to its low Speed stat. However, its Sturdy Ability ensures that it gets at least a turn to launch its best counterattack when faced with such situations.

This Archaludon build utilizes its high Sp. Attack stat to pressure opponents early with Draco Meteor and Flash Cannon. The White Herb it holds negates the stat reduction of the first Draco Meteor, allowing it to use a second Draco Meteor without the damage penalty.
Its Sturdy Ability also allows Archaludon to get a guaranteed turn, even in unfavorable matchups against faster special attackers.
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Set up with a faster special attacker | You can take advantage of Archaludon's low Speed stat and overpower it by using stat boosting Moves like Quiver Dance and Calm Mind before attacking. |
| Use Steel-type Pokemon | Archaludon's STAB Moves won't deal enough damage to Steel-types, even when boosted. |

Equipping Archaludon with Stealth Rock and Roar heavily disrupts your opponent's setup while chipping away at their HP each time a target is forcibly switched in. This wears down your opponent's Pokemon until they're within KO range of Draco Meteor or Flash Cannon.
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Use powerful special attackers | Archaludon's biggest weakness is its low Sp. Defense stat, making it an easy target for strong special attackers, especially the faster ones. |
When faced against faster special attackers, Archaludon might not be able to utilize Stealth Rock if it's taken out before it gets to use Roar. Note that Archaludon has low Sp. Defense, so a setup that aims to drag the fight like this build might not work against opponents faster special attackers.
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Bring a Sacred Sword user | Sacred Sword is a good counter for Stamina Achaludon, as it ignores the Defense boosts while also hitting Archaludon's weakness to Fighting. |
| Use a powerful special attacker | Since Stamina only increases Defense and Archaludon has a low Sp. Defense stat, you can use your best special attacker to brute force and take out Archaludon quickly. Just make sure that you use Moves that Archaludon does not resist. |
If you happen to be using a physical team and is faced with an Archaludon, make sure one of them knows Sacred Sword (preferably with STAB), to pierce through any Defense boosts like Stamina.
Exploiting its low Sp. Defense stat is the most consistent way to defeat Archaludon without any gimmick. Do note that, when using special attackers, make sure that they also have a decent Sp. Defense stat to tank a few hits from Archaludon.
