With the addition of No Guard to Mega Hawlucha, they can now pass it on to allies with Entrainment. This is especially potent when paired with Pokemon that learn OHKO moves, like Horn Drill and Sheer Cold, since it guarantees that it will land on the opponent.
List of Abilities for Legends Z-A Mega Evolutions
Besides the more cheesy Entrainment strategy, Mega Hawluch in itself is an extremely potent physical attacker. Besides its high Attack and Speed stats, the combo of Flying and Fighting is rarely resisted by most Pokemon.

This build is extremely effective on hyper offensive teams, since Mega Hawlucha can pass on No Guard to Pokemon with OHKO moves using Entrainment. This then guarantees that moves like Horn Drill and Sheer Cold land on enemies, knocking them out in a single hit!
| Stats | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Jolly Nature 32 Atk / 32 Spe |
Allows it to be a more offensive threat and not just an Entrainment bot. |
| Moves | Explanation |
|
Close Combat |
Provides extra coverage and makes Halucha more offensive after using Entrainment. When using this move, consider moving HP EVs to Attack if you don't need the extra survivability. |
|
Protect |
An always useful move that will help keep Hawlucha alive. Although, not as useful if you want to swap them out for someone more supportive immediately after using Entrainment. |
Using these moves and EV spread makes Hawlucha more akin to a traditional offensive build. This is great if you want to provide extra KO pressure outside of OHKO moves, but a more offensive set risks the Hawlucha getting KO'd before Entrainment goes off.
| Item: Charizardite Y | Brave Bird 109 ~ 129 (71.2 ~ 84.3%) Guaranteed 2HKO |
| Item: Starminite | Zen Headbutt 230 ~ 272 (124.3 ~ 147%) Guaranteed OHKO |
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Use Taunt to Prevent Entrainment | Since Entrainament is a status move, the most effective way to prevent it from going off is by using Taunt. However, you will need a fast Pokemon like Whimsicott to outspeed Hawlucha, or Mega Skarmory's Stalwart in case it's passing it to a redirection Pokemon like Clefable. |
| Knock It Out Before It Acts | Hawlucha is weak to a lot of powerful attacking types, meaning you can try to kill it before it gets to act. Make sure to use powerful and fast attackers, especially Mega Pokemon, so that you can guarantee an OHKO. |
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Taunt Before They can Use Entrainment | To prevent Hawlucha from passing No Guard to Pokemon with OHKO moves, it's recommended to Taunt them to stop them from using Entrainment. Pokemon like Whimsicott and Mega Skarmory are ideal for this because of Prankster and Stalwart respectively. |
| Target Its Weaknesses | Hawlucha has a ton of weaknesses, especially against common offensive types. Regardless of their set, you can burst them down with fast and powerful attackers like Mega Froslass, Mega Gardevoir, and even opposing Mega Hawluchas! |
If you want to prevent Entrainment from going off, you will need to Taunt Hawlucha with fast Pokemon, like Whimsicott and Talonflame, before it gets to act. However, if Hawlucha is paired with a redirector, like Follow Me Clefable, you will need a Mega Skarmory whose speed is boosted by an ally with Tailwind or Icy Wind since Stalwart ignores redirection moves.
Taunt Effect and Pokemon That Learn It
Alternatively, you can look to outright KO Hawlucha since it's weak to a lot of powerful attackers. Just make sure that the Pokemon can beat out its max Speed stat of 187, like Mega Froslass, Mega Meowstic, or Mega Greninja. Also, as a note, you can use fast Pokemon with Icy Wind so that Pokemon slower than Mega Hawlucha can look to double it up.

Mega Hawlucha
|
This sample team uses Hisuian Zoroark to bait out Hawlucha counters with Illusion. This then allows Zoroark and Kingambit to remove any threats before Hawlucha is sent out. Since the combo of Fighting and Flying is rarely resisted, Mega Hawlucha can easily defeat teams that don't have ways to deal with it.

This is a sample team that uses Sand Rush Excadrill to OHKO enemies with Horn Drill. It's supported by Mega Hawlucha that gives it No Guard using Entrainment, Tyranitar to set up Sand and activate Sand Rush, and Clefable for Skill Swap, Follow Me, and After You support.
Do note, however, that this sample team goes all in with the OHKO strategy, and sometimes it's recommended to bring other Pokemon to allow for a more balanced mix of strategies.
