Whimsicott is a good utility support Pokemon. With its Prankster ability, it gains priority when using non-damaging utility moves, guaranteeing they always move first regardless of your opponent’s Speed.
Prankster itself has its own disadvantages as an ability. Dark-types are immune to it, and if facing a Pokemon with Magic Bounce, priority is useless since it gets reflected back. It is also extremely weak to Poison due to its typing, making it easy to take down with Pokémon such as Gengar.

This Whimsicott build fully utilizes its Prankster ability to abuse moves that would otherwise go last against faster opponents. Leech Seed is the main focus of this build, as it not only damages but also heals Whimsicott or any Pokémon you switch to.
The other moves are for survivability, while Moonblast serves as a secondary offensive option if needed.
| Stats | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Calm Nature 32 HP / 32 SpD / 2 Def |
Since you’re running a full utility build, there’s no need to invest in SpA. Focus on your defenses instead. |
| Ability | Explanation |
|
Prankster Prankster Increases the priority of the Pokémon's status moves by 1 stage.
|
Prankster adds priority to non-damaging moves, guaranteeing them to always go first among all moves. |
| Moves | Explanation |
|
Encore |
Great to bring if a Pokemon you’re facing relies on stat-boosting moves such as Swords Dance and Dragon Dance. |
|
Switcheroo |
Used to cripple opposing foes, such as giving them a Choice Scarf to lock them into using one move. Ineffective against Pokemon holding a Mega Stone. |
|
Tailwind |
Grants a Speed buff to the entire team until it peters out. |
|
Memento |
Good to bring if your goal is to inflict debuffs on the opposing pokemon. This too will go first, but Whimsicott faints during the process. |
If you want to commit to disabling your opponent’s Pokemon, these are the moves you can use.
Encore makes them repeat a move, while Switcheroo can help you transfer a Choice Scarf to lock them into using only one move.
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Counter Using Magic Bounce | One of the best counters to Whimsicott is Magic Bounce. The best Pokemon with this ability to use are Mega Clefable and Hatterene, since they can also tank its Moonblast. |
| Use a Dark-type Pokemon | Dark-types are immune to Prankster, so using one against a Whimsicott is a great way to counter this strategy. Incineroar and Kingambit are great choices for this, as they can resist any Moonblast attempt if the opposing Whimsicott is forced to go offensive. Umbreon is a great alternative due to its overall bulk. |
Magic Bounce is one of the best abilities to counter a Whimsicott running a Prankster build. It prevents it from doing anything, since you can bounce back most of its moves.
Dark-types are also a great counter due to their full immunity to Prankster. They do have a type disadvantage, however, but there are a few Pokemon that remove this with their secondary typing, such as Incineroar and Kingambit.
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Use Magic Bounce | If your opponent is likely to lead with Whimsicott, it’s best to bring or start with a Pokemon that has Magic Bounce to reflect any of its non-damaging moves. |
| Bring a Dark-type Pokemon | Counter it by using a Dark-type Pokémon, preferably one with no Fairy weakness such as Incineroar or Kingambit, or a bulky option like Umbreon if the opposing Whimsicott chooses to go offensive. Dark-types are immune to Prankster, so any attempts to sabotage you will be ineffective. |
As mentioned, Magic Bounce and Dark-type Pokemon will be its main counters, as these mostly make its set ineffective. You can bring the Pokemon suggested above if you’re facing a Whimsicott.
| Lead Support | Defensive Switch | Offensive Pivot |
|---|---|---|
Whimsicott
|
Aegislash (Shield Forme)
|
Mega Greninja
|
Lead with Whimsicott, and if you’re faced with a counter, you can switch to either Aegislash or Mega Greninja, both of which can go fully offensive afterward. If your opponent goes offensive against Whimsicott as well, Aegislash can tank its Flying and Steel-type weaknesses while also being immune to Poison. Mega Greninja can also take some Fire-type hits if your opponent targets that weakness instead.
| Lead Support | Offensive Tank |

| Offensive Pivot | Defensive Switch |
Mega Greninja
|
Aegislash (Shield Forme)
|
Archaludon is one of the best defensive Pokémon that can also dish out offense if needed. With Whimsicott’s Leech Seed, it gains additional healing, making it even bulkier with constant recovery.
Mega Greninja and Aegislash also fulfill the same role as in Singles. They are good options to switch into if Whimsicott is in trouble.
