As we theorize and test characters, they are not treated as a singular unit but as a core member in their best teams. In other words, Pokemon are not judged in isolation. Here you can check the summary of explanations for each tier:
| Tier | Criteria |
|---|---|
| SS Tier Pokemon have great offensive stats and movepools, are easy to use, and can make any team they're part of stronger. These Pokemon are often setup sweepers that have an easy time setting up with their boosting moves. | |
| As the weeks go by and the metagame develops, Pokemon can go back and forth between S and A+ Tier. These Pokemon are still solid additions to your team and are essential to Ranked Battle. | |
| Pokemon in A Tier are often the best of their type, but are usually outclassed by Pokemon in the S and A+ Tier. These Pokemon also often have great type matchups against SS and S Tier Pokemon. | |
| B Tier Pokemon are often versatile and have effective builds, but there are generally better options in the higher tiers. | |
| C Tier Pokemon offer good moves and stats but are often locked in specialized builds. These Pokemon have specific niches in the metagame and are outclassed by Pokemon in the higher tiers. | |
| UR (Unranked) Pokemon are not currently legal for ranked battle however may be valid in certain online competitions. When made available these Pokemon will surely shake up the metagame. |
Changes to a tier list is delicate and periodical, and we understand that any changes made to a tier is drastic and requires explanations. Below, you can find four scenarios within a patch's life cycle and our plan of action when it occurs:
| Scenario | Notes |
|---|---|
| A new Pokemon releases: Preliminary Rankings | Expect preliminary rankings for Pokemon and Items as they are periodically released. These will not be their final rankings in the version and will always be subject to change. As we'll need time to test them out in the current meta, we urge our readers to treat the rankings on their first week as temporary. |
| Release of Items | Held Items can drastically change how a Pokemon can perform and what teams it can function it. For example, Season M-1 did not have any of the Terrain Seeds, losing Sneasler a spot in most Psychic Terrain teams. |
| Contributions to a Battle | These Tiers are determined by how drastically a match is altered by a Pokemon being on the field. Whether it be Redirection, Support, or a strong Offensive presence, a Pokemon's impactfulness determines its placement on our list |
| Meta Shifts | Shifts to the combat system like new mechanics or the release of a powerful Pokemon can shake up our tier list. A concrete example of this was in Z-A when the Primals and Mega Legendaries shook up the meta kicking out staples like Metagross and Vanniluxe. |
| Gimmick Potential | The release of different gimmicks can significantly change the position of certain Pokemon. For example, Terastallizingwill be taken into account as this mechanic not only gives it an extra STAB of a different type, it can also remove its glaring weaknesses and give it new resistances. |
| Date | Tier Updates |
