Mega Froslass is a fast and powerful Special Attacker with multiple moves that cover a bunch of Pokemon types. However, this doesn't apply to its base form, meaning it becomes very obvious to opponents that you'll want to Mega Evolve to unlock the full potential of this Pokemon.
Similar to Mega Charizard Y, Mega Froslass can choose when to set up Snow since Snow Warning only activates when it Mega Evolves. The only downside to this, however, is that it is very fast compared to other weather setters in the game. This means that, unless timed correctly, an opponent with a slower weather setter will always get to set up theirs instead.

Protect |
||||||||||
This build fully invests in Mega Froslass' Speed and Offense to quickly burst down opponents. The combination of Blizzard, Shadow Ball, and Thunderbolt isn't resisted by a single Pokemon, but it can also be very fragile, especially against physical attacks whenever Snow is not active on the field.
| Moves | Explanation |
|---|---|
|
Ice Beam |
A single target attack that is more consistent than Blizzard whenever Snow disappears. |
|
Ice Shard |
More useful than Protect in Single Battles where you want to get quick kills on your opponent. |
|
Weather Ball |
Another alternative to Blizzard and Ice Beam is Weather Ball. However, this should only be used if you can consistently activate Snow; otherwise, you will lose a powerful 100BP Ice attack. |
| Item: Dragoninite | Multiscale is Active Blizzard 122 ~ 146 (61.6 ~ 73.7%) Guaranteed 2HKO Multiscale is Inactive Blizzard 244 ~ 292 (123.2 ~ 147.4%) Guaranteed OHKO |
| Item: Black Glasses | Sucker Punch 144 ~ 170 (99.3 ~ 117.2%) 93.8% Chance to OHKO |
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Look for a Sucker Punch | Since the Froslass is using a more offensive set, it's a lot more susceptible to getting Sucker Punched. This will deal a ton of damage, and maybe even outright KO with the right Pokemon build. |
| Target Down Its Weaknesses | Even if Froslass has really strong offensive coverage, it's still weak to a lot of common Pokemon types. Aim to take down quickly with super effective attacks before it starts to rack up damage on your team. |

Aurora Veil |
Protect |
||||||||||
This set leans more heavily into the bulk that Mega Froslass gets once Snow and Aurora Veil are up. It is also immune to Fake Out since it's a Ghost-type, making it easy for the combo to go up, as long as the opponent doesn't set up their own weather.
Also, utilizing a bulkier build allows for spamming Blizzards to fish for freezes. This can become very frustrating for opponents, especially if they cannot deal with this type of build.
| Stats | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Bold Nature 32 HP / 20 Def / 12 SpD |
You can opt to further increase their bulk, making them last even longer during battle. This Nature and EV Spread also lets it survive attacks it normally wouldn't be able to when Aurora Veil is down. |
| Moves | Explanation |
|
Icy Wind |
Drops opponent's Speed to help allies act first. Although, it's generally recommended to have a supporting ally control Speed instead. |
|
Thunderbolt |
Provides amazing coverage when combined with Blizzard and Shadowball, but would need to sacrifice a defensive option to make space for this move. |
| Item: Dragoninite | Multiscale is Active Blizzard 134 ~ 162 (67.6 ~ 81.8%) Guaranteed 2HKO Multiscale is Inactive Blizzard 268 ~ 324 (135.3 ~ 163.6%) Guaranteed OHKO |
| Item: Black Glasses | Without Aurora Veil Kowtow Cleave 174 ~ 206 (98.3 ~ 116.3%) 87.5% Chance to OHKO With Aurora Veil Kowtow Cleave 116 ~ 137 (65.5 ~ 77.4%) Guaranteed 2HKO |
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Set Up Opposing Weather | Since the combination of Aurora Veil and Snow is integral to increasing Mega Froslass' bulk, especially on the defensive side, setting up opposing weather will prevent the combo from going up. |
| Taunt to Prevent Aurora Veil | If you can't stop Snow from going up, your next best bet is to taunt Mega Froslass to block Status moves. Just make sure that you're using a Pokemon that's faster, otherwise, they'll only get Taunted after using Aurora Veil. |
| Counter | Pokemon | Info |
|---|---|
| Bring a Weather Setter | Since Mega Froslass has an extremely fast Speed stat, it will generally always set up Snow first during a turn. This means that if you have slower weather setters on your team, you will have weather control during the battle if ever you both activate your respective weathers on the same turn. |
| Use Wide Guard During Doubles | Considering that Froslass can set up Snow whenever it wants, it will generally use Blizzard as its attacking move during Double Battles. This means that Wide Guard becomes incredibly powerful since it will completely block the attack for both of your Pokemon. |
By far, the best counter to Mega Froslass is removing Snow with your own weather setter of choice. Out of all the options, Tyranitar specifically stands out since Sand will increase its Special Defense, its typing is amazing against Mega Froslass, and it's a physical attacker that can abuse Froslass' low Defense.
Tyranitar Stats, Moves, and How to Get Fast
Since Mega Froslass can generally guarantee Snow, most builds will use Blizzard as their choice for an Ice attack. This means that a Pokemon with Wide Guard can easily block the attack for both of your Pokemon, helping stall out more of the Snow turns.

This sample team synergizes well both offensively and defensively. The goal is to clear out one Pokemon's threats using the other two, opening a way for an endgame where your last Pokemon can sweep the rest of your opponent's team.
Since this is a sample, you don't need to follow the order listed above. Instead, analyze your opponent's team and see which Pokemon you'll want to preserve for the endgame.
