List of Contents

You’ll start with a default deck after unlocking Shadowshaper Duels. Mix consistent point-gainers with a few effect cards to handle threats and turn the tide in your favor.
Additionally, a deck contains exactly 15 cards. Within that cap, you can include up to 3 Exotic cards and up to 5 Mythic cards. Other rarities have no set limit but are still subject to the duplicate rule.
You may run a maximum of 2 copies of any card. Use functionally similar cards to keep roles covered without breaking the duplicate cap.

You can play Shadowshaper Duels either against NPCs or other players online. Each NPC Duelist offers Beginner, Veteran, and Expert difficulties, which unlocks progressively.
Look for the Duelist icon on NPC names to quickly identify whom you can challenge.

To duel real players, head to the Activities section in the menu, choose Casual, and select Shadowshaper Duels. This lets you play 1v1 matches online, a great way to test your decks outside of NPC battles.
| # | Duel Mechanics |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Coin Toss: Offensive or Defensive A coin toss decides who goes first. Offensive acts first while the Defensive follows. Since matches are only 6 rounds, going first can sometimes set the pace, but Defensive gets the last move. |
| 2 | ![]() Place Cards on the Battlefield to Score Each round, you’ll spend points to put cards from your hand onto the battlefield. Cards add Power to your total score, and some also trigger special effects when placed in the Front Row or Back Row. Once your turn is done, click the End Turn button on the right side of the screen. |
| 3 | ![]() Points and Card Costs You start round 1 with 1 point, round 2 with 2 points, and so on until round 6. Each card’s cost is shown in the top-right corner. You can play multiple cards in a turn as long as you don’t exceed your play points, but unspent points don’t carry over to the next round. |
| 4 | ![]() Power and Scoring A card’s Power is shown in the top-left corner. Your total score is simply the sum of all Power values from units on your side of the board. The scoreboard on the right shows your current total versus your opponent’s. |
| 5 | ![]() Front Row vs Back Row When placing a card, you choose which row it enters. Some units trigger effects only if placed in the Front Row or Back Row, so positioning matters for maximizing combos. |
| 6 | ![]() Removing Opponent Cards If a card’s Power is reduced to 0, it’s destroyed and removed from the battlefield. Many abilities chip away at enemy Power, so weakening cards is a common way to swing control of the board. |
| 7 | ![]() Earn the Most Points by the End of the Duel After the final round, the player with the higher total Power on the field wins. Draws are possible, so plan your last turn to avoid a tie or force one if you’re behind. |
| Card Effect | Explanation |
|---|---|
| When Played | An effect triggered wben the unit is placed on the battlefield |
| Sustained | An effect that lasts as long as the unit is on the battlefield. Expires when Suppressed. |
| Suppressed | Sustained effects and special effects expire, and Power bonuses are removed. |
| Back Row | An effect triggered when the unit is placed in the back field. |
| Front Row | An effect triggered when the unit is placed in the front row. |
| Inspired | At the end of your turn, gains 1 Power. |
These are all the card effects you’ll encounter in Shadowshaper Duels. Each one changes how a card behaves on the battlefield, so make sure to check the effect description before placing a card.

Defeating specific NPC Duelists grants fixed, first-time rewards. You can replay them afterward for practice or experience, but they will no longer give any more rewards.

Visit Wu Ming, the Card Vendor, to purchase new cards for your deck. Cards can be bought using Duelist Tokens earned from leveling up and online battles, and the selection refreshes regularly, giving you more options to strengthen your strategy.
