How to Unlock Character Quests
Progress the Story
Character quests become available only after certain primary quests have been completed, regardless of whether you own the character or not. Some later character quests may have more requirements, but it's a good idea to progress the main quest if they aren't appearing in your Quests menu.
Quests where you can try out a trial version of the character only require you to progress the story before they become available.
Campaign Missions List and Quest Walkthrough
Unlock Characters
After you complete tutorial character quests, you will need to own the character in order for the rest of their questline to be available to you. This means that you may be locked out of the questlines of characters that you can draw for a limited-time only such as Gwynn.
Increase Character Proficiency
Some character quests require a minimum proficiency from your characters before they can be unlocked. Novice II is the first threshold for many characters after you complete their tutorial missions.
How to View Proficiency
On the Characters menu, the shield icon beside the character name indicates the character's proficiency. Select this icon to view the proficiency level of the character.
Unlike XP, proficiency only affects the selected character and does not carry over to other characters. Proficiency can be raised by using the character to participate in activities.
Character Quest Mechanics
Story Mode
Character quests frequently enter Story Mode once you start them. This mode places some limitations on your gameplay in order for you to have a smoother, more immersive experience.
Locked to One Character
In Story Mode, you are typically locked to a specific character, so that the narrative will make sense. You will be unable to switch characters, though you may still be able to switch weapons and provide upgrades to your characters.
The character you play as will not necessarily be the same as the character the quest falls under. However, it is usually only Wolf and the quest character you'll need to play as.
Some Features May Be Unavailable
On some occasions, gameplay features may also be restricted. For example, during the Ice Field Phantoms quest, you will be unable to use your Sparrow to move around.
The game will usually tell you if a feature is unavailable for the character quest you're doing.

The rewards for each character quest differ, but if you go through a whole questline, you can expect to obtain Lumia Leaves, Bon Voyage Charms, Incandescence Tufts, Glimmer, and Team XP along your journey.
