In Karusa Valley North of the Gerudo Town

You can find the Yiga Clan Hideout in the depths of the Karusa Valley north of the Gerudo Town. It is recommended to use a sand seal to travel from Gerudo Town to Karusa Valley.

Fly from the Gerudo Tower

If you have activated the Gerudo Tower in the region, you can use it as a starting point and fly towards the entrance of the Karusa Valley.

If you also have upgraded stamina gauge, you can climb the tall cliffs and head straight to the hideout to avoid the falling boulders at Karusa Valley.

Activate the Sho Dantu Shrine nearby

There is a pedestal that unlocks a shrine in the area as you make your way to the hideout. Pick up the Luminous Stone nearby and drop it on the pedestal to activate the shrine.

Yiga Footsoldiers Appear When You Approach the Hideout

Several Yiga Footsoldiers will appear once you set foot on the hideout. These enemies drop Mighty Bananas which you can use to distract the footsoldiers inside the hideout.

Why is the Yiga Clan Hideout Blocked?

Initiate the Divine Beast Vah Naboris Quest from Riju in Gerudo Town

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (BotW) Divine Beast Vah Naboris Main Quest

If you try to enter the Yiga Clan Hideout without starting the Divine Beast Vah Naboris quest, the entrance will be blocked by a large rock. Make sure to talk to Riju at Gerudo Town to start the quest.

In addition to Riju, you will also need to talk to Captain Tekae and her soldiers at the barracks. They will give you more information on the hideout which will update the quest's Adventure Log.

  1. Burn the second hanging scroll on the right side.
  2. Sneak around to avoid the Yiga Blademasters.
  3. Open the door using the Magnesis rune.
  4. Defeat Master Kohga and retrieve the Thunder Helm.

The entrance of the Yiga Clan hideout is behind the hanging scroll on the right side of the entrance. Use a torch to burn the hanging scroll to reveal the stairs that lead to the hideout.

The other hanging scrolls contain treasure chests and Keese. Check out the diagram below to see the location of the treasure chests.

Sneak Around to Avoid the Yiga Blademasters

The hideout contains Yiga Blademasters that can inflict instant death damage if they attack.

If you get spotted, these enemies will call reinforcements and attack, making it almost impossible to fight back. You can run away to the entrance of the hideout to try again if this happens.

In addition, saving while inside the hideout is not possible and you will restart from the last autosave.

Follow the Blademasters as they patrol around the pillar

In the first area, keep your distance and follow the Yiga Blademaster and hide under the descending stairs.

If you are feeling confident, you can glide down from the top when the Blademaster is at the left side of the room and then make your way to the descending stairs.

Hide behind the tall boxes and throw a Mighty Banana on the ground to distract the Yiga Blademaster guarding the door. You can also this opportunity to perform a Sneakstrike while he is distracted to defeat him in one hit.

Jump down from the open window down to the tall platform where one Yiga Blademaster is circling around it.

Use a bow and arrow to shoot the X-mark on the shelf that contains a banana to drop the fruit down and distract the second Yiga Blademaster.

There is a ladder at the end of the room that you can climb to reach the wooden beams. Once you reach the beams, you can drop a banana on the ground to distract the Yiga Blademaster guarding the room that leads to the boss fight.

Use a Spicy Pepper to create an updraft to bypass the area

Burning a Spicy Pepper with a flame weapon creates an updraft that you can use to glide and reach the ceiling of the area. You can then use a Mighty Banana to distract the Yiga Blademaster that guards the room that leads to the boss fight.

Open the treasure chests later

There are multiple treasure chests that contain ores in the rooms in the hideout. These are difficult to reach at the moment as there are Yiga Blademasters patrolling in the area.

Defeating Master Kohga despawns all the enemies, making it easier for you to find the treasure chests later on.

Open the Door Using the Magnesis Rune

You will arrive in a room that looks like a dead end. However, using the Magnesis Rune reveals a door that you can pull with the rune. Note that proceeding through the door starts the boss fight with Master Kohga so be sure to prepare any healing items.

There is also a treasure chest placed in the center of the room that you can open to obtain a Mighty Banana.

Useful information
There is a Duplex Bow in the room that comes in handy once you proceed with freeing the Divine Beast Vah Naboris.

You can find a buried treasure chest in the ground in this room. Use the Magnesis Rune to lift it up from the ground to open it.

Defeat Master Kohga and Retrieve the Thunder Helm

Master Kohga has three phases for his boss fight. In the first two phases, he will summon a rock overhead to throw at your direction. You can shoot at his face during this attack to cause the rock to fall down on his head.

At the last phase, he will summon a metal spikeball to drag it to you. Use the Magnesis Rune to control the metal spikeball and drop it over his head to deal damage.

Useful Information
If you are planning to complete the Hyrule Compendium, this is the only time you can get Master Kohga's entry. Be sure to take a photo first before defeating him.

Master Kohga Boss Guide

Get the Thunder Helm from the treasure chest

Defeating Master Kohga reveals the treasure chest that contains the Thunder Helm. By this point, you can head back to Gerudo Town to return the helmet to Riju.

Note that defeating Master Kohga will spawn occassional Yiga Footsoldiers in various parts of Hyrule to take revenge, so be careful when exploring around the world.

After defeating Master Kohga, all the enemies in the hideout will disappear. This allows you to freely explore the hideout and find the treasure chests that you may have missed.

The second large room contains a treasure chest with Silver Rupee on the central pillar. Two treasure chests with Gold Rupee can be obtained after burning the hanging scroll in the center of the wall.

Yiga Clan Hideout Tips

Use the Champion's Tunic

Zelda BotW - Use the Champion
Wearing the Champion's Tunic allows you to see the enemy's health even if you are far away from them or at a different room. This allows you to pinpoint the enemy's location in the dimly lit hideout.

You can obtain it from Impa once you have witnessed one memory as part of the Captured Memories main quest.
