What is a Perfect Dodge?

Botw - Perfect Dodge
A Perfect Dodge is a technique that, when done successfully, dodges an enemy attack and slows down time in battle, enabling you to perform a series of attacks, called a Flurry Rush. Just like Parrying, it gives a tremendous advantage in battle.

Tips for Dodging Attacks

Timing is Important

Botw - TIming is Important
The timing between the enemy attack and the dodge is essential gaining the upperhand in battle. Dodging the attack too fast or too slow will give you a disadvantage in battle. You might lose a heart in the process, or you could even end up dead.

Dodge Direction Matters

Botw - Dodge Direction
A Perfect Dodge will activate if you correctly dodge an attack, and this also means that the direction of your dodge is important. The correct direction of the dodge will depend on the type of the enemy's attack. If an enemy attacks vertically, you must dodge horizontally to perform a Flurry Rush, and vice versa for a horizontal attack.

Shield Up!

Botw - Shield Up
To lessen the risk of being damaged when dodging an attack, shielding is the safest thing to do. It will prevent you from losing hearts, as well as getting staggered by the attack. Save up some shield and fearlessly dodge all the enemies' attacks!

Only Works Against Melee Attacks

Botw - Works On Melee Only
Perfect Dodge will only activate on melee attacks. It is better to Parry or simply run when faced with a ranged enemy.

Check Your Weapon Durability

Botw - Broken Weapon
Keep in mind that most weapons have durability and will break after certain amount of usage. Nothing is worse than having your weapon break right in the middle of a Flurry Rush against a powerful enemy like a Lynel, so be sure that your weapon isn't near breaking before trying to activate a flurry rush!

To prevent the weapon from losing its durability, be sure to stop your Flurry Rush attacks when the enemy's HP has reached 0.
