How to Beat Sephiroth (First Encounter)

Reduce Physical Damage With Barrier

Most of Sephiroth's attacks are a series of quick slashes that deal physical damage and are hard to dodge. Mitigate damage by casting Barrier!

How to Get the Barrier Materia

Learn to Dodge Draw Slash

Draw Slash can be evaded by timing your dodge just before Sephiroth touches the hilt of his blade. Successfully dodging this attack leaves Sephiroth open to Zack's attacks!

Cast Darkness When Sephiroth Spawns Materia

Sephiroth can summon 4 types of Materia: Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Support. If you ignore these Materia for too long, they will start casting Magic on Zack. Use StanceDarkness to deal with them quickly and efficiently.

How to Get the Darkness Materia

Prioritize HP Recovery After Heartless Angel

Heartless Angel is an attack that leaves Zack at 1 HP. While it is possible to avoid this attack by using a Limit Break, it is easier to brace yourself for the hit, and immediately recover with either Magic or Consumables.

Fight As Close As Possible

In addition to losing all your HP, you will also lose the battle if Zack gets pushed too far back on his end of the scaffold. Make sure to stick as close as you can to Sephiroth, to stop him from advancing you towards the Game Over zone.

Use Barrier

Much like your previous fight, Sephiroth will still use mainly Physical attacks. So be sure to have Barrier ready to endure those hits!

Inflict Significant Damage with Stance→Command Materia

Stance→High Jump → Stance →High Jump

This fight is a DPS Check that ends when either Zack or Sephiroth gets cornered. Deal damage to Sephiroth efficiently by utilizing the Stance damage bonus in concert with a Command Materia. It is recommended to use High Jump, as it can close the gap when Zack gets knocked-back, while also providing an evasion option for Sephiroth's Draw Slash.

How to Get the High Jump Materia
