Angeal Backstory and Profile

Angeal is Zack’s mentor and a 1st Class SOLDIER operative. He’s a reliable, grounded man with a sense of responsibility - and trusted by all who know him.

Angeal always carries his gigantic Buster Sword on his back, but very rarely uses it. He’s also close friends with Sephiroth and Genesis.

Angeal Characteristics and Role

Zack's Respected Senior and Mentor

Angeal is one of the top three 1st class SOLDIERs along with Sephiroth and Genesis, and is admired and looked up to by our main character, Zack.

Angeal gives Zack the nickname: Zack the Puppy, and is the one who teaches Zack the basics of being a SOLDIER. He is also the one who encourages Zack to be proud of his dreams.

Original Owner of the Buster Sword

The iconic Buster Sword that is known to be Cloud's signature weapon in FFVII was originally wielded by Angeal. Angeal's parents worked hard to have the sword forged for him when he first joined SOLDIER, and so Angeal would use the sword rarely in order to treat it with care.

For this reason, Angeal prefers using a standard sword as a regular weapon. As the story progresses, the Buster Sword becomes a special weapon that is passed down to Zack who then passes it to Cloud.
