Materia can level up randomly through the DMW or manually through the Materia Fusion system in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. Check here for more details on how to level up Materia.

How to Level Up Materia

Level Increases when Two or More DMW Numbers are Aligned

Equipped Materia will automatically level up when two or more of the same numbers align on the DMW bar. These numbers can only be between 1 to 6, representing the 6 Materia Slots that you can equip.

The numbers that align will level up the Materia in the slot of the same number. Like in the video above, two 6's aligned on the DMW bar and, in turn, the Dark Fire Materia that was equipped in Materia Slot 6 leveled up.

Moogle Power Raises the Level of All Equipped Materia

You can also level up Materia using Moogle Power, a Digital Mind Wave (DMW) Chocobo Mode skill. Using this skill raises the level of all equipped materia and casts Regen on Zack. The amount of level increase is the same as the level of Moogle Power.

You can obtain the Moogle Power skill after opening the treasure chest in the mission: Suspcious Mail 4 and obtaining the Moogle Amulet.
