Zalen's Sidequest can be completed by visiting Zalen at specific locations in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake (DQ1). See the list of all Zalen's locations, and the rewards for completing Zalen's sidequest.

Forgotten Ruins

You can start the sidequest by first finding Zalen in the Forgotten Ruins, which can be reached by passing the bridge just east of the Wayfarer's Chapel.
Nameless Ruins

You're next encounter with Zalen will take place once you've reached the Nameless Ruins, which is located just west of the Craggy Cave on the western portion of the map.
Damdara

In order to meet Zalen in Damdara, you will need to progress the main storyline until you've acquired the Magic Key. Once you've acquired the key, you can finally meet Zalen in Damdara.

You will again need to progress the main storyline until you've acquired the Ultimate Key in order to meet Zalen at Cantlin, which is located somewhere south of the map.
Galenholm

You will need to acquire the Lyre of Ire before you can meet Zalen at Galenholm, which is located at the utmost northwestern portion of the map.

Field of Flowers

The Mark of Erdrick first needs to be obtained during this point in the quest. Once you've obtained it, you can meet a fairy in the Field of Flowers that can help progress the quest.

Shrine of Rain

Once you've talked with the fairy at the Field of Flowers, you can then talk to the fairy located on the first floor of the Shrine of Rain. From there, you'll need to head towards the Western Isle.
Western Isle
Proceed to the Western Isle after you've talked with the fairy at the Shrine of Rain. Complete the cutscene that plays out during your arrival and head towards the nearby tomb to obtain Erdrick's Helm.
You can also acquire a Mini Medal on the northern pier of the Western Isle, so be sure to claim that as well.
Talk to Zalen in Rimuldar

After the cutscene concludes, talk to the fairy on the Western Isle and head back to the first floor of the Shrine of Rain. From there, head to Zalen and find Rimuldar. You will earn the A New Song of Erdrick Trophy once you've concluded this sidequest.

Erdrick's Helm
You can find Erdrick's Helm at a nearby tomb in Western Isle after you've finished the cutscene during the progression of this quest. Do note that the helm is part of the Erdrick's Set in the game.
How to Get Erdrick's Equipment Set
Mini Medal
You can find this Mini Medal at the northern pier located at Western Isle, which can be accessed after you've completed the cutscene that plays during your arrival.
