A place on the map that awards treasure, including equipment and weapons. Denoted by telltale sparkles. |
![]() Secret Spot |
Also called a Hidden Spot, it hides valuable treasure, including items, rare gear, and Mini Medals, in an unusual landscape feature. |
Mini Medal |
Mini Medals are collectibles that are hidden within locations that can be traded for special rewards. |
Scroll |
Scrolls are hidden in chests that contain Spells and Abilities that cannot be unlocked by level progression. |

The difference between towns and dungeons in Dragon Quest 1 is that towns are safe areas where you can rest and prepare, while dungeons are typically filled with monsters.
Also, outside of the optional ones, dungeons are a way to check if you're strong enough to proceed with the game's story since they're normally used to either progress to a higher level area, or they contain a key item that's required for the story.
