Use Safe Passage

Damdara Overworld

Safe Passage is a spell added to Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, and it has the useful effect of making the Hero temporarily immune to the effects of harmful terrain. While the spell doesn't last forever, it does the job for just 2 MP.

Equip Erdrick's Armour

Knight Aberrant

A more permanent and MP-efficient way to safely cross hazardous terrain comes in the form of Erdrick's Armour, the legendary equipment item. Equipping Erdrick's Armour protects the Hero from harmful terrain.

However, you'll need to go to Damdara and defeat the Knight Aberrant to win the suit.

Cast Heals Before Getting the Armour

If you plan on crossing damaging tiles before you get the armour, make sure you have enough MP to cast healing spells since there's no way to avoid those types of tiles before then.

Damdara
Damaging floor tiles are types of terrain that hurt the Hero when stepped on. The main type of damaging floor tile found in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake is poison, displayed as a sickly purple area on the ground. Poison zones are easily found in Damdara but can also be seen in other locations.
