Make the most money fast in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake (DQ1) by defeating monsters and Gold Golems. See all farming methods here, tips and tricks on how to save your money, and a list of monsters by Gold in this guide.

In the early game, there is no known efficient way to farm money so the best way is to defeat enemies that are at your level or slightly higher. Once players reach level 7, we recommend grinding monsters around Craggy Cave.

Sell the cursed equipment in your inventory to a merchant. Be careful not to wear them, as it would cost you gold to remove them through Benediction in a church.
You can find two pieces of cursed equipment in the Craggy Cave, located west of Tantegel Castle: the Choker and the Zombie Mail. You will earn 1200 gold from the Choker and 652 from the Zombie Mail.
How to Remove Cursed Equipment

In the mid-game, players are recommended to farm for Gold Golems around the Sanctum south of Rimuldar, earning you around 1990 Gold per enemy defeated.
Gold Golems do not give as much EXP as other monsters but if players are only looking to farm gold, they are the best option to go for.
Gold Golem Enemy Location and Rewards
In the late game, players are recommended to fight monsters around Cantlin. Enemies around Cantlin will drop a decent amount of gold and will be a better shot at grinding these monsters than trying to get a rare Gold Golem spawn.

When exploring towns and dungeons, be sure to seek out treasure chests. They carry valuable loot and gold and they're found everywhere in the world, so keep an eye out for them!

Wiping out in Dragon Quest 1 will result in a Gold penalty when coming back. You will lose half your Gold if you die in battle with a monster or a boss so make sure to keep your levels up and update your gear often so that you won't have a hard time with battles!
Death Penalty: What Happens When You Die?
Another way to avoid losing most of your Gold is to put them in one of the Banks in the world. This helps you keep a surplus of your valuables in a safe spot where they won't be affected by the Gold penalty on wipe out.

While you go on your journey around the world, you will no doubt collect equipment and weapons that might go unused in your inventory.
Instead of leaving them in your bag, sell them for money in a shop. Be sure to double check all equipment and items you will be selling as you might sell something valuable by accident.
