Things to Know Before Starting

There is no record or trophy

The Knife Only Run is not a record or trophy in the game, it is just a way of playing the game with a greater challenge.

Speedruning will be very hard

Getting an S on a Knife Only Run is extremely hard on higher difficulties since Nemesis's HP will be higher than in lower difficulties.

You do not have to kill every enemy you encounter

When doing this kind of run, it is not recommended to kill every enemy you encounter since it will take a long time to kill a single enemy and you can get easily swarmed by multiple enemies.

Equip All the Shop Coins

When you encounter the first Item Box at the Subway Station immediately get the Coins that you have in the shop to make your run easier. The boosts you get from the coins in your inventory can help you save from using a lot of recovery items.

Assault Coin.jpgAssault Coin Greatly increases attack power when held. Carry two to increase the effect.
Iron Defense Coin.jpgIron Defense Coin Greatly increases your defense when held. Carry two to increase the effect.
Recovery Coin.jpgRecovery Coin Gradually regenerate health when held. Carry two to increase the effect.

Pick Up All Recovery Items

Since you will only be using the knife for the whole run, you should pick up all the recovery items you find in the game. This is so you can tank most enemy attacks and force yourself through them.

Green Herb.jpgGreen Herb Restores a small amount of health.
Red Herb.jpgRed Herb No Effect. This is mainly used to combine with the green herb to increase its potency.
First Aid Spray.jpgFirst Aid Spray Fully restores your health.
G + R HerbMixed Herbs The effect varies depending on the herb combination.

Master Perfect Dodging

Mastering the Perfect Dodge is a MUST in order to do the Knife Only Run. Perfect Dodging can significantly help you in forcing your way through enemies in order to get to the next objective. This can also significantly help you in your battles against Nemesis.

How to do a Perfect Dodge

If you are having trouble successfully doing the Perfect Dodge, you can also equip the S.T.A.R.S. Field Combat Manual.
