You can choose between Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard difficulty modes in addition to a few camera and controller settings.

A new difficulty mode called Apocalyptic is included if you have purchased the DLC Expansion Pass.

Difference Between Difficulty Modes

Stronger Weak-Point Gauge

HW:AoC - Weak Point Gauge

It takes a while to deplete an enemy's Weak-Point Gauge when playing in Hard, Very Hard, and Apocalyptic difficulty modes. You will need to use combat techniques such as Flurry Rush to defeat large foes as fast as possible.

Enemies Deal More Damage

HW:AoC - Getting Hit in Very Hard Mode
All enemies in Hard, Very Hard, and Apocalyptic difficulty modes deal more damage, making battles even more challenging. For example, a Moblin's attack can inflict 3-4 Hearts and may even defeat low level characters in one hit.

In addition, apples are more scarce so be sure to stock up on healing items before a battle!

Which Difficulty Should You Choose?

Choose Easy When Farming for Rupees

HW:AoC - Battle Record

We recommend choosing Easy when farming for Rupees to get 200 Rupees for both Clear Time and KOs. The number of Rupees you obtain after completing a battle or challenge, as well as other rewards, will always be the same, regardless of the difficulty mode.
