Addendum, if you're unlucky with the Magic Pot in M7-6-6: The Determined Recruiter (which asks you to perform Octaslash), you can still forfeit when the pot says "Boring" and before it leaves/ends the battle. Even with Heavenly limit and the Octaslash materia, you can still get unlucky.

In the remaster you can now forfeit the battle if you run into him with the wrong set up, it will give you the option to adjust your equipment and try again.
