Sea of Thieves will require you to create and use a Microsoft Account in order to play the game. If playing on Steam (PC) or the PS5, you will also need to link your Microsoft account to your Steam or PSN account before you can play.
Sea of Thieves is available on multiple platforms and a Microsoft account allows you to share progress between all of them. This includes cosmetics, Commendations, accumulated gold, Doubloons, and Ancient Coins!
Some platform exclusives will remain unavailable for other platforms even with cross progression. For example, Duke ship cosmetics tied to the Xbox Series X|S launch will not be available for the PS5 release even if your account is shared between PS5 and Xbox consoles.
Using a Microsoft account will grant access to crossplay between all other platforms, allowing you to add friends outside of PSN. On the PS5, you will have access to both your Xbox and PSN friend list so you can invite your friends on any platform to play with you.
Is Crossplay Available for PS5?
Logging into your Microsoft account on the Sea of Thieves official website will allow you access to information about your character. You can check your cosmetic inventories, keep tabs on your currencies, track your Seasonal progress, and showcase Commendations!
You can also access the Pirate Emporium right on the website allowing you to browse through and buy hundreds of cosmetics for your pirate and ship without having to launch the game.
