How to Start Tall Tales

Vote at the Tall Tale's Quest Book

You can start a Tall Tale by voting at the Tall Tale's Tale Book next to specific NPCs. You can find the Tale Book's location from the Map Table when zooming into islands.

Once you have an active Tall Tale, it will appear on your ship's Quest Table where you and your crew can see your checkpoint progress or vote to cancel the Tale.

How to Unlock Tall Tales

Start a Tall Tale from Your Ship's Quest Table

If you don't want to go through the hassle of having to find each of the Tall Tale books, you can instead opt to start Tall Tales via your ship's Quest Table. Once a tale is started, you can vote to either sail to the quest location or fast travel by diving to location.

Note: Only use the dive to location option if you're starting on the server fresh. If you have any treasure or currently active quests, they will be removed from your ship if you choose the dive to location method.

Resume a Tall Tale from a Checkpoint

Tall Tales have a number of checkpoints that you can acquire when you reach a specific quest objective in the tale. The checkpoints allow players to leave and resume the Tall Tale at a later time.

The checkpoints are stored in the Quest Inventory and can be used to vote at the Quest Table. Resuming a Tall Tale via a checkpoint spawns the required Quest Items at the Quest Table.

Reduce Crew Size to Lower Boss Difficulty

The boss fights in Tall Tales scale depending on your crew size. This means that having a crew of three to four players boosts the health of a boss.

You can have the players leave before approaching the boss fight area and then rejoin once the solo player starts the boss fight. This allows you to fight the boss at its solo health and reduce the time it takes to defeat the boss.

Play on Safer Seas to Avoid PvP

If you want to complete a Tall Tale without interference from other players, you can start a game session in Safer Seas. In Safer Seas, you can play solo or co-op with friends and only encounter PvE enemies. However, do note that gold rewards are reduced in Safer Seas.

Play with Friends to Make Tall Tales Easier

Tall Tales include puzzles and combat that will be much easier when you play with friends. It is recommended to play with a party (especially when tackling Tall Tales in High Seas) as the additional manpower allows you to finish the Tall Tales faster.

Cancel the Tale to Reset Puzzles

If you get stuck at a puzzle or prefer a different one at a Tall Tale, you can vote to cancel the tale. This resets the puzzle location once you have voted for the Tale's checkpoint at the Quest Table.

Start Tall Tales in the Numbered Order

You can start Tall Tales in any order but it is recommended to start them based on the ordering on the section above if you are interested in following the story arc for each group of Tall Tales.

Tall Tales Rewards

Gold

You can get gold after completing a Tall Tale. This reward is also shared if you are part of an Alliance. Note that if you play on Safer Seas, the Gold you earn will be reduced to 2400 Gold per Tall Tale.

Differences Between High Seas and Safer Seas

Commendations

You can also get Commendations which unlock cosmetics when completing a Tall Tale. Note that need to complete certain objectives such as finding all hidden optional journals to get all Commendations in a Tall Tale.
