Sea of Thieves - Fort of Fortune

Fort of Fortune is a World Event in Sea of Thieves indicated by a skull with red eyes hovering over a Skeleton Fort. Read on to find out how to find and start Fort of Fortune events, how to beat the waves of skeletons, the commendations, and the rewards you get for completing them!

How to Start a Fort of Fortune

Starts When a Red-Eyed Skull Cloud Hovers an Island

Sea of Thieves - Fort of Fortune Night

The Fort of Fortune is an event that takes place on most Skeleton Fort islands and is usually indicated by a skull cloud with red eyes hovering the island.

Similar to other Fort events, when a Skeleton Fort island does not have the red-eyed skull cloud hovering above it, this means that it isn't active. There will be no skeletons invading the island and the vault in the fort will be locked.

Forts of Fortune are Available in Safer Seas and High Seas

Sea of Thieves - Safer Seas

Fort of Fortune World Events can appear even if the player opts to play in Safer Seas. However, the commendation related to Fort of Fortune is only available if you play in High Seas.

You will earn less rewards for turning in Fort of Fortune treasures when playing in Safer Seas. However, the upside is you won't have to worry about PvP and other players stealing your loot.

High Seas vs. Safer Seas

How to Beat Fort of Fortune

Beware of the Cannons as you Approach the Fort

Sea of Thieves - Cannonball

Similar to the Skeleton Fort event, you'll be greeted by cannonball attacks from the fort as soon as you're within range.

Park your ship at a location where the cannons can't swivel to hit you. Once you parked, bring food and your weapon of choice with you and start raiding the fort.

Use a Pistol Against the Skeletons

When dealing with normal waves, use a Pistol to deal with hordes of normal skeletons as it has a low reload time compared to other guns in the game.

While moving, remember to pick up ammo pouches from slain skeletons so you won't run out of ammo for your gun. You should also aim to take out skeletons with guns first, as they can shoot you from afar and can be difficult to deal with because of that.

Set Up Gunpowder Barrels Against Skeletons

Since you'll be fighting off many waves of skeletons, we recommend using the Gunpowder Barrels scattered around the island and setting them up near hordes of skeletons to blow them up.

Don't Stay in One Position and Keep Moving

Sea of Thieves - Skeleton

If you let yourself stay in one place, there's a high chance of you getting overwhelmed. Always move and keep your distance and attack whenever you're in a safe distance.

Use Firebombs to Deal with the Horde

You can also use the Firebomb to deal damage against the hordes of skeletons. This is one of the efficient ways to deal with a horde since it can take out multiple enemies at once if they're near each other.

Use the Blunderbuss on Skeleton Lords and Ashen Lord

After clearing 15 waves of skeleton hordes, switch your weapon to the Blunderbuss once the Skeleton Lords spawn in on the 16th/17th wave and the Ashen Lord on the 18th wave and use it as your main source of damage against them.

The Blunderbuss deals the most amount of damage in the game, making it an effective gun to fight bosses with. Just make sure to get close to the enemy to maximize its potential.

Deal with Ashen Lord After Defeating Skeletons

During the final wave, you will need to fight the final horde of skeletons which includes one of the four Ashen Lords.

Aim to take out the normal skeletons first and then finally focus on defeating the Ashen Lord which will have the same moveset as their Ashen Winds counterpart.
