After 6 years, Sea of Thieves will finally add two new weapons for players to use in Season 12. First of the two is the Double Barrel Pistol. When equipped, it lets you fire two shots individually before needing to reload. You can also charge the weapon to release the two shots at the same time for increased damage.
How to Use the Double Barrel Pistol
The Throwing Knife is a short-range melee weapon that lets you perform quick stabbing attacks against players in combat. Charging the weapon switches into a stabbing motion that slows a player's movement and deals more damage.
You can also use the weapon as a throwable, giving you an option to attack at a long range. You can retrieve Throwing Knives that missed its target to replenish your ammo.
The Scattershot is a collection of four small cannonballs that have a shorter falloff range but with a wide spread. This allows you to hit a ship with multiple cannonballs at the same time.
Using a Scattershot may deal light damage compared to the standard cannonball but the weapon tears more holes, requiring the enemy crew to use more resouces to repair their ship.
The Bone Caller is a new throwable that lets you summon ally skeletons. You can also fire it from a cannonball to spawn skeletons wherever it lands (be it on an enemy ship or on land).
How to Get and Use the Bone Caller
The Horn of Fair Winds, or Wind Caller, allows you to summon the power of the winds to blow wind into your sails to speed up your ship. This comes in handy when you are chasing after an enemy ship or if you are running away from one as you can go beyond full-billow in speed.
How to Get and Use the Horn of Fair Winds
First introduced in the Monkey Island Tall Tale, ziplines make their return in Season 12, offering players a new traversal system that makes it easier and faster to travel from one area to another. This also allows you to quickly go from the Outpost and directly to your ship.
A new feature added to Season 12 is the ability to balance on harpoon lines. For example, when using the harpoon on an enemy ship, you can balance on the rope to make your way to the other ship.
You can also set it up when visiting islands with a lot of verticality, allowing you to slide back down to your ship via the harpoon line once you reach the top level of the island.
There is no announcement on Season 12's end date at the time of writing. The previous season, Season 11, lasted for 17 weeks so it is likely that Season 12 will follow the same pattern and will end on August 27, 2024.
Sea of Thieves Season 12 was released on April 30, 2024, along with the PS5 version release of the game. The PS5 version is available for Crossplay, and you can also continue your progress there as there will be a Cross-Progression feature.
