The Pirate Lord will open a portal at a nearby archway that leads to a ghostly realm. Sail through the portal to be transported to this realm and you will then be greeted by LeChuck and his minion Bob.
After a brief conversation, you will appear off the coast of Melee Island. Make your way to the docks and anchor your ship near one of the piers.
Venture towards the town and look for a shop with green lanterns outside it. Enter the store and Corina will immediately start talking to you.
She will instruct you to speak to the Pirate Leaders at the Scumm Bar to discuss about undergoing the Three Legendary Trials.
Return to the Scumm Bar and inform the Pirate Leaders that you are ready to undergo the Three Legendary Trials. Before you can begin however, you will first need to clear the fog surrounding the island.
Corina will brew up a potion to get rid of the mist, but while she's doing that, she will give you a list of items required for the trials, which includes the Mighty Pirate Sword, a Rubber Chicken, and a Treasure Map.
Leave Corina's shop, turn left, and talk to Citizen of Melee. Choose the last dialogue, where you'll ask for a map. He will agree to trade the map for a chart from the Governor's Mansion.
On your way to the Governor's Mansion, drop by the General Store and talk to the shopkeeper. Choose the last dialogue option and he will give you a Blank Credit Note.
Exit the General Store, turn right, and proceed to the mansion. Inside the mansion, pull out the books from the two bookshelves at the foyer until you find the one named The Time I Blew Up LeChuck.
Guybrush's Signed Sea Chart will fall off afterward. Pick that one up and it should automatically be added to your quest radial inventory.
Pickpocket Guybrush to obtain a Storage Chest Key. Use it on the footlocker beside the office door and grab the Captain's Inkwell inside. Place the inkwell on Guybrush's table.
Next, pick up the Writing Quill found on the table next to the elegant chairs at the mansion's foyer and place it on Guybrush's table as well.
Bring out the Blank Credit Note, place it on the table and forge it. Afterward, take it to the General Store shopkeeper in town.
Buy the Mighty Pirate Sword located to the left of the shopkeeper. Open the Armoury beside the table where you bought the sword and equip it.
Go up to the second floor of the General Store and buy the Rubber Chicken. It will be near a barrel at the corner, next to the window.
Leave the shop and return to Citizen of Melee. Bring out the Guybrush's Signed Sea Chart from your quest radial and trade it for the Treasure Map.
With the Mighty Pirate Sword, Rubber Chicken, and Treasure Map at hand, return to Corina and she will give you the Mojo Potion of New Horizons to cast away the fog enshrouding the island.
Run back to the docks and go up the trail south west of it. This will lead you to Lookout Point. Once you've reached the top, pour the Mojo Potion of New Horizons into the campfire and watch as the island's fog disappears.
This will open up the path to the rest of Melee Island, allowing you to begin the Three Legendary Trials! In addition, you will also unlock the Clearing the Air Commendation.
From Lookout Point, take the newly opened path to the South East until you find a zipline. Use it to slide down near a bridge. Pull the lever beside it to lower it down.
Proceed North along the dirt path and go past the wooden scaffolding attached to a large boulder. Once you see the ghostly spirit of Guybrush to path on your right, enter it as this is the entrance to the forest.
From the forest entrance, take the first path to the right and follow it going South to Southeast. Cross the first log bridge and you will be greeted again by the ghost of Guybrush.
Take the left path where the ghost was standing. Continue following East to Northeast and past a camp until you find the second log bridge. Cross it until you reach some yellow flowers on the ground.
Go North until you see a torch. From there, go North West until you reach a wooden sign. Equip the Shovel and dig up the spot where the ghostly spirit of Guybrush was digging to obtain the Chest of Treasure-Huntery.
Retrace your steps out of the forest. There should be a small artist shack by the entrance outside. From the shack, head North until you reach a lone lantern post. Turn right and you will find a broken scarecrow.
Head Southeast until you reach a wooden wagon with two dead trees in front of it. Go through the path in the middle of the dead trees and you will end up in the fishing camp.
There is a fishing rod on one of the barrels. Dig on the ground just below the rod and you will find the second Chest of Treasure-Huntery!
Walk back up the hill and take the Southeastern path. Once you see a tree with a lantern on it, keep walking South until you see a red arrow sign and buildings with bright lights from a distance.
Stop at the first lone lantern post that you'll see and look to your right. You will find a large tree with a carving of a heart on it.
Dig the at the base of the heart-carved tree and you will find the Third Chest of Treasure-Huntery.
Walk a bit southwest and use the zipline. Run North, past the shipyard, and cross the bridge.
After crossing the bridge, there is a broken cart to your left. From the cart, face Southeast and go through the small rock tunnel straight ahead of you.
Dig at the base of the torch for the final chest and take the Trophy of Legendary Treasure-Huntery inside. Hand it over to Corina who will appear in a portal nearby to complete the trial.
You will unlock the Trial of Treasure-Huntery Commendation upon completion of this trial. Two more trials to go!
The Trial of Thievery |
---|
① Ask Stan About the Headless Monkey |
② Speak to Meathook and Repair the Cage |
③ Tame the Beast Using a Shanty |
④ Get Rid of Stan and Steal the Idol o' Many Hands |
Go speak to Stan who is at the shipyard and ask about the owner of the Headless Monkey. Before you can ask this however, you will have to listen to Stan's sales pitches by examining the white sign next to the Grog Rowboat.
Afterward, go to the docks and examine each ship's white signs to hear more of Stan's sales talk.
Meet Stan again in front of his office and ask about the cheapest ship, followed by who purchased the Headless Monkey.
Next, you will have to speak to Meathook at his house. Go South of the shipyard and use the zipline near the cabin. Follow the path and use a zipline again beside the red arrow sign.
Enter the house and tell Meathook you are there for the Headless Monkey.
To the right of Meathook, there is a wooden cage with cutlasses on it. Remove all five cutlasses on it. Next, go outside and turn left. Pick up three wooden planks and use it to patch up the cage.
Two more items to go. Head to the nearby forest and pluck out a Mop Tree Stick from the Rare Mop Tree sapling and attach it to the cage's missing lever. Finally, search for the Concentrated Banana Grease in cupboards and crates inside his home and hand it over to him.
Go up to the second floor of the house and move the pillow on the bed to find the Scrap of Music to learn the shanty to tame the beast.
Climb up the mountain trail in the forest until you reach the entrance of the beast's lair. Equip any instrument and select the Summon the Beast shanty. Keep playing until you lure it out; turns out the beast is just a parrot.
Pick up the beast and lock it up inside the wooden cage at Meathook's house. Afterward, Meathook will give you the Bill of Sale.
Return to Stan at the shipyard and tell him you have the Headless Monkey's Bill of Sale. Keep talking to Stan about ship parts until he walks up to the Captain's Wardrobe, then ask him if it's suitable to play hide and seek.
Once he's inside the wardrobe, lock it up and push it down the water to get rid of him. This action unlocks the Stantastic Voyage Commendation
The Idol o' Many Hands is in a safe in Stan's office. Get the office key on a wall behind the vending machine and use it to unlock the office door.
Pick up Stan's Sales Ledger and flip it to the last page to find the code to the safe. The code will depict how many times you need to rotate the lock left or right.
Grab the Idol o' Many Hands and hand it over to Corina outside. This concludes this trial and you will get the Trial of Thievery Commendation. One more trial to go!
From the shipyard, go north past the bridge and make a sharp turn right on the first path you'll see to get to the circus. Speak to Bill and Alfredo about a circus routine which rewards you with a grand prize upon completion.
Before proceeding with the circus routine, pick up the Circus costume on the blue circular platform and equip it at the clothing chest near the Bill and Alfredo. Next, adjust the cannon by raising the height at just the top middle of the circular rings.
Ring the bell near Bill and Alfredo and climb up the ladder beside it. Jump across the gaps and ring the second bell on the other side. Jump down the wooden platforms and ring the third bell. Use the zipline to get down and climb aboard the cannon and fire yourself through the flaming rings.
You will be rewarded with 404 Pieces o' Eight, which you will need to begin sword training with Captain Smirk. Completing a circus routine also unlocks the Melee Island Spectacular Commendation.
Return to the shipyard and head South until you reach a log cabin with a zipline outside. Knock on the door while wielding the Mighty Pirate Sword. If you don't have it equipped, there is an Armoury beside the door.
Pay Smirk with the Pieces o' Eight you got earlier to begin sword training, along with how to use Insults and Retorts.
The training teaches you the mechanics of Insults and Retorts. Your foe shouts an Insult, you reply with the correct Retort to stun them. Say the wrong Retort and you will take damage.
Likewise, if you're the one using an Insult and the enemy fails to respond correctly, they will be stunned. If they say the correct Retort, you will take damage.
Both sides need to successfully Insult or Retort each other three times to win.
Captain Smirk will give you a map where you can learn every Insult and Retort from ghost swordfighters. Murray will pop out at each of these locations and summon ghost pirates that will teach you some insulting witty banters.
It's okay to lose these fights, since you're just there to learn all of the Insults and Retorts. Once you've learned all of them, you will unlock the Sword Master Commendation and Murray will let you know that you are ready.
▼ Jump to All Insults and Retorts ▼
Captain Smirk and Carla will be at the forest where you were treasure hunting earlier. Look for the yellow flowers in the forest again and take the southeast path. Press the hidden switch behind the wooden sign to form a bridge out of the broken logs.
Keep following the path ahead until you reach the captain and Carla fending off some ghostly pirates.
During your fight with Ribbsy, you can only defend yourself with Retorts, since you cannot Insult him. His Insults are slightly different from the ones you learned earlier, but are somewhat similar in meaning.
If you need help defeating Ribbsy, refer to our Ribbsy Insults and Retorts section below!
▼ Jump to Ribbsy Insults and Retorts ▼
After beating Ribbsy, Carla will give you a Medallion. Hand it over to Corina nearby to finish this trial and unlock the Trial of the Sword Commendation.
Return to Corina at her shop and take the Mojo Potion of Unclouded Mind from the cauldron. Give the potion to Guybrush at his mansion to free him from the spell and snap him back to reality.
He will have to make amends with people on Melee Island. While he is doing so, you will have to return back to Sea of Thieves to await further instructions, and thus, ending the Quest for Guybrush tall tale here.
