How to Beat Megalodon

Tips for Beating the Megalodon

Drop Your Ship Anchor to Stay in One Position

Sea of Thieves - Anchor the Ship
The easiest way to fight a Megalodon is by dropping anchor to stop your ship from moving. Aside from preventing the Megalodon from despawning (if you run into named islands), this tactic also helps with the knockback effect of the Megalodon's bite.

By anchoring your ship, getting knocked off won't be too big of a deal since you'll be able to quickly swim back without having to worry about your ship running off. Being stationary also helps smaller crews, as they can focus on fighting and repairing instead of piloting.

Use the Ship Cannon to Deal Damage

The main method of fighting a Megalodon is using your ship cannons to shoot cannonballs at the Megalodon. The difficulty (HP) of the Megalodon will depend on what type of ship that a player has.

If you have a Sloop, it will take 10-13 cannonball hits to defeat a Megalodon. Meanwhile, it will take 15-18 cannonball hits if you have a Brigantine ship. Lastly, if you have a a Galleon, it will take 30-32 cannonball hits before taking down a Megalodon.

Shoot the Megalodon's Mouth While It's Charging

The Megalodon will try to bite your ship which can produce 1 to 5 ship holes depending on the ship size that you have. To prevent this, you can fire cannonball to the Megalodon's mouth to stop the bite attack. Be careful as being hit by the Megalodon's bite attack will knock you back.

It will take 2 cannonball hits if you're on a Sloop, 4 cannonball hits on a Brigantine and 6 cannonball hits if you are on a Galleon to prevent its bite attack.

Have Someone Use Guns to Deal Bonus Damage

If you have a crewmate with you, have them focus on using a Flintlock or Eye of Reach from a distance to deal damage or Blunderbuss when the Megalodon is near your ship. While this isn't much damage, it does help especially when the Megalodon is outside the range of your cannons.
