Sea of Thieves - How to Sword Lunge

Sword lunging is a movement technique using a cutlass that allows you to cover long distances in Sea of Thieves. Read on to learn how to do a Sword Lunge jump and when to use it to get around faster!

How to Sword Lunge

Jump While Doing a Charged Attack

How to Do a Sword Lunge
PC 1. Hold RMB (Block).
2. Hold LMB (Charged Attack) + W.
3. Space (Jump) during the charge.
Controller 1. Hold L2 (Block).
2. Hold R2 (Charged Attack) + ↑LS.
3. A/X (Jump) during the charge.

Sword lunging makes use of the charged attack mechanic of the cutlass. It uses the forward momentum from the charged attack into the jump to cover a lot of ground.

To do a sword lunge, hold the block button and wind-up a charged attack by holding the attack button while moving forward. As the charged attack goes off, press jump during the forward movement of the attack. The best time to press jump is between the start and end of the attack right before you stop.

Block Lunge

Normally, you move slower while winding up a charged attack. However, holding the block button first and then pressing the charged attack button lets you move faster during the wind-up. You need to be blocking to do a sword lunge.

How to Use Sword Lunge

Gliding Over Water

Using the sword lunge from land into the water lets you go a lot farther and faster than just swimming. Hold the jump button to stay afloat!

This is useful for getting onto land from your ship and vice versa reducing the time needed to swim. You can even use this to board enemy ships during naval combat.

Combat Mobility

Hitting an enemy with your charged attack removes the pause at the end of the attack. You can use this to your advantage when fighting multiple enemies as this lets you dodge and reposition quickly while landing devastating charged attacks.
