Sea of Thieves - PlayStation 5 Crossplay

Sea of Thieves supports crossplay on all supported platforms, including the newest addition, PS5, which was released on April 30, 2024. It means that players on PS5 can interact and play with those using PC and Xbox, and vice versa.

PlayStation Users Can Disable Crossplay

Players on PS5 have the option to disable crossplay functionality, restricting multiplayer modes to PlayStation users only. Use this feature to limit your encounters solely to PlayStation users, particularly for those who prefer not to face PC users.

Is There Cross Progression Between Platforms?

All Progress Will Synchronise Across All Platforms

Sea of Thieves - Cross-Progression

All progress made with a specific pirate, including commendations, cosmetics, gold, Doubloons, and Ancient Coins, are accessible on PS5. This means that you can continue your progress, regardless of the platform you use to play.

Additionally, any purchased items, such as cosmetics, weapons, and item bundles, will also be available.

Platform-Exclusives Will Not Be Accessible

Sea of Thieves - Cross-Progression Non-Transferrable

Platform-exclusive items and cosmetics will not be accessible across different devices. For example, PlayStation Exclusives like the Ruby Viper cosmetics or Dauntless Adventurer will not be equippable on your characters when playing on Xbox or PC. Likewise, Xbox exclusives like the Duke ship cosmetics will not be accessible for PlayStation users.

How to Enable Crossplay on PS5

  1. Subscribe to PlayStation®Plus
  2. Add Friends to Crossplay Using a Microsoft Account
  3. Toggle Crossplay in Settings

Subscribe to PlayStation®Plus

Sea of Thieves - Crossplay PS5 Support

PS5 users will need a PlayStation®Plus Subscription to access all online multiplayer features, including crossplay with other players. This subscription is vital if you want to access all online multiplayer modes. No need to subscribe to Xbox Live as you can freely crossplay with other players using only PS Plus if you're using PS5.

Once you have your subscription ready, link your PlayStation Account to your Microsoft Account to synchronize your progress and to start crossplaying with your friends.

Log-in your Microsoft Account to access your friend list. Here, you can add all the friends you want to crossplay with, regardless of the platforms they're using. On PS5, the updated friend list will show both your Xbox and your PSN friends list, allowing an easy access to crossplay anytime.

Having a Microsoft Account will also allow you to use the same account if you want to play on another platform, such as Xbox or PC.

Toggle Crossplay in Settings

The Crossplay setting can be toggled on or off by going to the Settings menu. This option is enabled by default, allowing you to matchmake with other players on different platforms.

Turning this option off will restrict your sessions to matchmake with only PS5 players instead. You also have the option of allowing only controller users in your sessions so everyone is on equal footing.
