How to Become a Pirate Legend

Reach Rank 50 Reputation with 3 Different Trading Companies

Sea of Thieves - Reputation Page.png

The only requirement to achieving the Pirate Legend status is to reach rank 50 Reputation with three different Trading Companies and buy the corresponding rank 50 promotions for each one. Afterwhich, you have to speak to the Mysterious Stranger at any tavern.

Trading Company Reputation can be raised by turning in company-relevant items at the respective NPCs, earning commendations, and lowering emissary flags that are Grade 2 or higher (except Hunter's Call).

Trading Company How to Raise
Gold Hoarders IconGold Hoarders Turn in treasure chests, artefacts, and treasure vault keys. Vault keys come from Wayfinder Voyages and can also be used to open Treasure Vaults for a chance at better loot.
Order of Souls IconOrder of Souls Turn in bounty skulls. These may come from Skeleton Captains during bounty hunts or found on islands and even underwater. The rarer the skull is, the more reputation you get.
Merchant Alliance IconMerchant Alliance Turn in a variety of items including resource crates, trade goods, cargo crates, commodities, captured animals, explosives, and coffers. These items can be found during voyages or just about anywhere.
ReaperReaper's Bones Turn in items meant for other companies and stolen emissary flags. This company emphasizes taking down players who are emissaries of other companies.
HunterHunter's Call Turn in items related to fishing and cooking. Container chests, gems, Tridents of the Dark Tides, and Breaths of the Sea are also accepted.

You have the freedom to choose among the five Trading Companies available before becoming a Pirate Legend to raise to rank 50.

List of All Trading Companies

Focus on the Starter Companies

Sea of Thieves - Focus on the Starter Companies

The easiest companies to do would be the three starter ones: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. These companies offer voyages for you to do right from the start allowing you to naturally find company-related items to turn in. The other companies, Reaper's Bones and Hunter's Call, do not offer voyages.

Reaper's Bones

Sea of Thieves - Reaper

While Reaper's Bones accept items from other companies, they give lesser reputation than Reaper-specific items. The fastest way to raise reputation would then be to PvP and take emissary flags from other players, Reaper's Chests, and Reaper's Bounties.

Hunter's Call

Sea of Thieves - Hunter

Hunter's Call will have you look for fish and meat to cook and turn in for reputation. The fastest way to raise reputation would be to keep fishing and cooking while aiming for commendations.

Become Emissaries

Sea of Thieves - Become Emissaries

With the exception of the Hunter's Call, you can become emissaries for all the other companies. Becoming an emissary for a company will give bonus gold and reputation for turn-ins with that company increasing with Emissary Grade.

This is super helpful when grinding out reputation levels and should always be used almost all the time. The only time being an emissary would be difficult is if there are active PvP players and especially Reaper's Bones emissaries in the server.

Play in High Seas

Sea of Thieves - High Seas Offers the Original Multiplayer Experience.png

Even with the risk of PvP, playing in High Seas is the best option when grinding for reputation since Safer Seas will only allow you to earn 30% of the reputation you would make in High Seas. Additionally, you will be unable to raise reputation above rank 40 in Safer Seas.

Pirate Legend Perks

Athena's Fortune Hideout

Sea of Thieves - Athena

Once you talk to the Mysterious Stranger after reaching the required reputation, he will teach you the Shanty of Legends. Playing the shanty while in any tavern will open a secret passage leading to the Athena's Fortune Hideout.

Furthermore, achieving Pirate Legend status will grant access to the Athena's Fortune Trading Company, allowing the player to earn reputation with the company and become an emissary.

Legendary Cosmetics

Sea of Thieves - Pirate Legend Cosmetics

Pirate Legends will earn the title and Legendary Clothes and Vanity Items for free upon becoming one. Other cosmetic items for both player and ship also become available from both the Athena's Fortune Shopkeeper and Shipwright at the hideout. Additional pet outfits are also unlocked at the Pirate Emporium.

Legendary Voyages

Athena's Fortune Voyages are made available at the hideout which lead to high-value treasure items. Pirate Legends may also participate in legend-only Mercenary Voyages that are usually released during every major content update.
