Plundering Sea Fortresses is one of the fastest ways to earn Gold since they they can be done in under 15 minutes. These forts contain a wide variety of chests and crates filled with spices that can be sold to Trading Companies. You can earn a total of around 10,000 to 12,000 Gold if you sell every piece of loot.
Upon arriving at a fortress, you will have to clear out waves of Phantom Pirates until the Phantom Captain spawns. Defeat the captain to obtain the Fortress Treasury Key to unlock the treasure room of the fort.
Other than the main treasure room, the top floor has a storage room with additional treasure inside it. You will need the Fortress Store Room Key to open it, which can be found randomly inside cupboards, cabinets, and crates in the fortress.
Here are all the locations of Sea Fortresses on the map:
Siren Shrines are underwater locations filled with puzzles, which upon solving all of them and reaching the end of the shrine, you will be rewarded with treasure that you can sell for gold.
You can find shrines from the surface by looking for purple glowing aura while sailing. Dive down until you reach a coral-infested kingdom. Enter it and fight your way through hordes of hostile sea creatures until you find the treasure room.
There will be a Mermaid Statue in the treasure room that you can use to transport treasure out of the Shrine. Once done, use the statue to teleport to your ship and look for a mermaid with a purple flare on the water. Interact with them and all the treasure you've collected will float up to the water.
While sailing, you may come across a flock of seagulls flying around in circles. This indicates that there is a sunken ship nearby. These shipwrecks contain chests, items, and other valuables inside.
You will have to dive underwater and swim inside the ship to gather the loot. Eating bananas are useful while doing this to prolong your health, since you may run out of oxygen while scavenging.
Completing Voyages are an easy way of earning treasure for you to sell. If you have a Trading Company's Emissary Flag raised, any treasure handed to that company will be worth more gold than usual. The higher your Emissary Grade with a company, the more gold you will receive from them.
Before you can purchase an Emissary Flag for a Trading Company, you will first need to reach Reputation Level 15 for them.
Lost Shipment Voyages are issued by the Merchant Alliance trading company which leads to a sunken ship filled with crates of Exquisite Spices, Exotic Silks, Fine Sugar, and several other more spices that you can sell for huge sums of gold.
Once accepted at a quest table, study the clues given to you via quest items in order to find the lost ship. Be sure to pick up the Captain's Key along the way since you can use it at the sunken ship to unlock the captain's quarters which is filled with crates of different spices.
Gold Hoarders Vault Voyages will lead you directly to vaults containing a lot of Captain's Chests, a Chest of the Ancient Tributes, and several Gold Piles on the floor.
Upon starting this voyage, you will be looking for the vault key using a golden compass and torn map pieces. Once you have obtained the vault key, it will have the isle's name on it where the vault can be found. Go there, open the vault room, and solve a difficult puzzle in order to obtain the high value loot inside.
Using a Treasure Map is one of the most straightforward ways to dig up Captain's Chests. One easy way to get treasure maps is by going to the Quest Board at the docks, near the Shipwright. You can pick up to a total of 5 treasure maps daily!
Another way to get a treasure map is by accepting one of the Buried Treasure Voyages of the Gold Hoarders Trading Company at the Quest Table.
Do note that some of the other treasure hunting voyages require a higher promotion rank before you can start one. These higher ranked voyages will have more Captain's Chest for you to find.
Perhaps the riskiest way to earn a ton of gold is by taking part in World Events. These events mainly consist of battling waves of enemies and a boss fight in the end, where you can obtain valuable treasure as drops, or a key which leads you to a treasure vault room.
There are currently 6 World Events that you can participate in: Ashen Winds, Fort of Fortune, Ghost Fleet, Skeleton Fleet, and Skeleton Fort

The Season Pass rewards you mostly with Gold Pouches and Gold Piles for each Renown level you gain. Progressing the pass requires you to earn Renown through activities that you commonly do in the game, like collecting treasure and loot, setting foot on islands, and battling hostile NPCs.
Gold Rush is an event in-game that happens twice daily. Throughout the duration of this event, the value of gold from treasure sold will be multiplied by 1.5x, letting you earn more gold than usual.

Cosmetics like clothes and other apparel can be bought from the General Clothing Shop at Outposts with gold. You can fully customize your pirate's fashion to your own liking from this shop!
You can also purchase Ship cosmetics from the Shipwright, which alters the appearance of ship parts. Decorative furniture can also be bought here and placed around your ship.
There are a select few cosmetics that require you to have a certain Reputation Level with a Trading Company before you can buy them.
Supplies such as Food, Cannonball, and Wood crates can be purchased from any Merchant Alliance representative for gold. You can find these representatives at the docks of any Outpost.
You will have to spend gold to captain your own ship. Currently there are only three ships that you can buy in the game: Sloop (250,000 gold), Brigantine (375,000 gold), and Galleon (500,000 gold).
Ships are bought by choosing the My Ships menu when selecting a ship at the lobby of High Seas mode.
