I would generally consider it an AU of BotW than a prequel and thus questioning the canonicity of it. There are many conflicting pieces of information between BotW and AoC that I hardly want to consider it connected to BotW, but it seems more like a fanfic than anything else. For example, Link not having the master sword at the beginning of AoC is a pretty glaring discrepancy considering he was said to get it around 10 or something in BotW. Obvi, no games start where u have the chosen sword but

Both BotW and AoC are canon, just set in different timelines. It explicitly states on the loading screen that when Terrako traveled back in time, it created a new world.

It is explained that Terrako is the one enabling all the characters to usethe slates despite the fact none of the trials were done.

The evidence is that the developers have said that the teams worked together to get everything right. Every detail to make it fit with the Zelda team. The developers of the story wanted to tell the story but it was impossible to tell in a traditional zelda game. Normally if a game has been considered non canon the developers have come out and said that its not part of the Canon. So at the moment more evidence points to it being canon than non-canon.

Is not canon, if you say that Nintendo said that statement then provide evidence.

Of note. The guardian traveled back in time, making Breath of the Wild that Timeline. The failure to stop the calamity and it acting earlier can be considered why the enemies are stronger than previously seen, so another timeline where they fail. And the third is the one where they succeed with help from either the first or Second timeline. Time is weird, and once more the timelines are split in three. Why did they merge into one though, and Zelda seemingly has all three parts of the Triforce.

Nintendo literally said during the initial announcement, that Age of Calamity is canon. That's an inarguable fact, no matter if ppl like it or not.

Yes it is, play the game, it erases the Breath Of The Wild timeline where the events never happened and prevented, Part 2 will probably be set after these events.

No age of calamity is not canon to breath of the wild.
