The Switch 2 Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BotW) includes upgrades and connectivity with Zelda Notes. Learn how to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition and see all upgrades in this guide.

If you previously owned The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BotW) on the original Switch, you need to purchase the Upgrade Pack on the Nintendo eShop for $9.99.

Another option to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition is to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. It costs $49.99 for 12 months or $79.99 for 12 months for a family membership.

If you are purchasing the game for the first time on Switch 2, you can purchase the Switch 2 Edition for $69.99.

The Switch 2 Edition promises a smoother gameplay experience. It includes a Graphics Upgrade to 4K and an FPS increase to 120.
The new edition will also offer HDR support with HDR-compatible displays when playing TV mode.

If you already own the Breath of the Wild on Switch transferring your save data to the Switch 2 Edition is possible.

On top of being able to transfer your save data, the Switch 2 edition also has an additional Manual Save Slot.

Zelda Notes is a game specific service within the Nintendo Switch app that adds new features to the Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild.
The app is free to download on Apple App Store and on Google Play. It does not require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BotW) Switch 2 Edition was released on June 5, 2025 to coincide with the Nintendo Switch 2's release date. It is available to purchase on the Nintendo eShop and on retail stores.
On April 5, 2025, the offiical Nintendo YouTube channel posted a reveal of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (BotW) Switch 2 port as part of the console's initial lineup of games.
