BotW Switch 2 Release Date
During the Nintendo Direct event last April 2, 2025, it was announced that the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be dropping a Switch 2 Edition at the same time as the Switch 2 is released.
The new edition will come with better graphics, compatibility with the new Zelda Notes companion app, and more.
Switch 1 Owners Need an Upgrade Pack
Switch 1 version owners can get the Switch 2 edition by purchasing the Upgrade Pack for the Switch 2.

Graphics Upgrade and HDR Support
The Switch 2 Edition promises a smoother gameplay experience. It includes a Graphics Upgrade to 4K and an FPS increase to 120.
The new edition will also offer HDR support with HDR-compatible displays when playing TV mode.
Save Game Transfer from Switch 1 to 2
If you already own the Breath of the Wild on Switch transferring your save data to the Switch 2 Edition is possible.
Additional Manual Save Slot
On top of being able to transfer your save data, the Switch 2 edition will also have an additional Manual Save Slot.
Zelda Notes Compatible
The Zelda Notes Companion App
Zelda Notes is a game specific app that will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 Edition owners of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. This contains a variety of features that will support your journey in Hyrule.
This app will be free to download on your smart device through the Nintendo Switch App once it is available.

Listen to commentary and new stories from different beloved characters when you reach specific locations in the game. These memories can be located using Navigation. |
 Item Sharing |
Share items with other players using Zelda Notes. Deposit your items in-game to your Zelda Notes item box and convert into a QR code you can share with other players. |
 Photo Studio |
Take photos in-game that you can share and decorate through the app. |
 My Play Data |
See detailed information about your play, including stats like number of deaths, enemies defeated so far, weapons collected, and many more. You can even earn medals based on your records! |

Compare your stats with other players across the globe. See how you rank in the community across the world and the gameplay trends among players. |
 Daily Bonus |
Once a day, you can use Zelda Notes to spin for a random benefit. This benefit can give you hearts, meals, or other effects-based results. |
 Amiibo |
Through the Zelda Notes app, you can use your Amiibo to obtain in-game items once per day. When you scan an Amiibo five times using the app, you can get a bonus use of that amiibo for a second scan that day. |
