    Dude, you don’t have to talk to the widow. Failing (or skipping) the first objective doesn’t mean you will fail the quest.

    You CAN mess this quest up. If you explore the area before finding the contract on the notice board, it'll trigger the quest with the first objective failed right away (Talk to the widow). Happened to me, and unfortunately I didn't notice until a lot later so I couldn't reload a save.
