The Fire Whirlwind Battlemage is a level 22 build that you can use for both mobs and bosses, due to its ramping damage and large AoE. The build is relatively low-effort to be successful on, since you mainly want to get on top of enemies and spin with Sweeping Strike.

Its main downside is its low mobility since you want to keep channeling Whirlwind without dashing, although the build gets movement speed from abilities and equipment.

The stats shown above is a sample build of what you want to go for when building your character.

Get Ornate and Heavy Armor pieces, as they give you implicit stats for Resistances and Glancing Projectile Hit Chance. Both of these are good for this melee-focused build to assist you in dealing with ranged enemies and casters.

You also ideally want to go for a 2h Axe as your weapon for its Strike damage type and innate modifiers. For affixes, you generally want to go for Fire/Weapon Fire and Strike damage, followed by Might for scaling, Health, and Energy Regen to effectively channel Sweeping Strike for DPS.

The Harpe unique weapon is one of the best options you have with this build, as it increases your Fire Damage, Energy Regeneration, and Attack Speed. It essentially fits the playstyle of this build, helping you deal ramping Fire damage the more you channel Sweeping Strike.

Do note that the Harpe requires some AGI as a stat, so you might have to invest a few points to it. You still benefit from the Fitness secondary attribute it gives you, and the weapon itself is worth getting alone for the build.

Sweeping Strike with the Whirlwind modifier is a channel ability that is your main source of damage. With Ring of Flame, all Weapon damage gets converted into Fire Damage, changing Sweeping Strike's damage scaling.

This damage is enhanced by Earth Enchantment and Earth's passives. On the other hand, Warfare gives this build enhanced durability with Battlefield Awareness, and its passives enhance your spell damage for Ring of Flame as you continue to deal fire damage and build Rage in combat.

List of All Skills

Divinity Allocation Points

Divinity Allocation
Earth ▶ Warfare

Focus on putting Divinity Points in Earth to reach Ring of Flame early. This ability converts Weapon Damage into Fire Damage, and is only accessible once you get to Earth's 3rd tier. Prioritize this first, especially since Sweeping Strike is immediately accessible once you get the Warfare mastery.

Attribute Priority

Attribute Prioritization
Might ▶ Vigor ▶ Agility

Might is the main attribute for both Earth and Warfare, so investing in it for Fire Damage is your main priority. Afterwards, invest a few stats in Vigor to get more durability from the Health and tenacity it gives you.

You can follow the 1:3 ratio, allocating one Vigor for every three Might. A third attribute, Agility, might also need some investments if you're going to be using the Unique weapon, Harpe, which is one of the best weapons to use for this build.

All Attributes Explained

Playstyle and Skill Rotation

The Fire Whirlwind Battlemage build revolves around dealing continuous damage with Whirlwind, amplified by Earth's Fire Damage application. The rotation is as follows:

  1. Activate Ring of Flame, Battlefield Awareness, and Earth Enchantment before combat.
  2. Engage with the enemy and hold Sweeping Strike.
  3. Use Health and Energy Potions as needed.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all enemies are defeated.
