The Ice Shard Overwhelm Elementalist build utilizes the Overwhelm synergy of Ice Shards and Roiling Magma, dealing consistent DPS when in combat. The Storm ability, Ice Shard has no cooldown and has relatively low cost, making it a spell that you can essentially spam for damage.

On the other hand, Roiling Magma deals very high damage especially when Overwhelm is full but costs a lot of energy. The main issue with this build is its high energy consumption, so you will have to roll for Energy Regeneration and use your potions to prevent DPS loss.

The stats shown above is a sample build of what you want to go for when building your character.

The best gear to go for is the Magos Robes set, as it fits the Knowledge requirements that the build wants and it provides you with extra barrier shielding to soak up damage. You ideally want to go for Cold and Fire Damage affixes to increase DPS, while also aiming for Energy Regen to be more comfortable with the skill rotation.

You also want some Resistances here and there, as well as Armor to become a bit more durable in combat. Try to balance both survivability and damage based on your preferred playstyle.

Try to get the Cuttlebone Standard weapon, as it fits the Ice Shard Overwhelm Elementalist build with its fixed modifiers. Both your Earth and Storm abilities will benefit from this Spear, and it makes skill rotations easier with its Energy Regeneration.

As for accessories, the Cartouche Ring is the best one for this build because it gives you the extra Damage buffs for your abilities, Energy and Energy Regeneration, and can also be worn twice if you have two of them. This unique accessory will substantially increase your damage if you have it.

Ice Shard will be your main damage source in this build, paired with Roiling Magma's high burst damage with Overwhelm. Other active abilities, such as Storm Nimbus and Cyclone, are mainly used to buff your Cold Damage. On the other hand, Ring of Flame reduces enemies' Fire and Cold Resistances.

This build works by staying at mid-range to have your projectiles hit your targets, spamming Ice Shards before casting Roiling Magma. Use Barrier when available, even if it's not upgraded to soak up damage. As for passives, we primarily recommend getting Spell Damage which is supplemented by Projectile and Cold Damage.

List of All Skills

Divinity Allocation Points

Divinity Allocation
Storm ▶ Earth

Prioritize building Storm first over Earth, as you will need the Active abilities in its third tier. Most of your damaging abilities come from your first tier abilities, Ice Shards and Roiling Magma, so investing Divinity Points on Earth is more for the added buff provided by Ring of Flame.

We also suggest getting Storm as your first mastery instead of Earth, as you'll essentially be using Ice Shards for your damage instead of Weapon attacks.

Attribute Priority

Attribute Prioritization
Knowledge ▶ Vigor

Focus on getting Knowledge, as Earth and Storm benefit from the secondary attributes it gives you. Then, focus on getting Vigor for more sustain on your character.

As a general rule, we suggest doing a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio, wherein you invest in one Vigor attribute for every two or three Knowledge.

All Attributes Explained

Playstyle and Skill Rotation

The Ice Shard Overwhelm Elementalist build revolves around continuously building Cold Damage from your Storm abilities, followed by Roiling Magma's quick burst. The rotation is as follows:

  1. Activate Storm Nimbus and Ring of Flame to buff your overall damage.
  2. Cast Cyclone on enemies to generate a field that deals Cold Damage and buffs Ice Shards.
Note: You do not need to enter the large Cyclone, as your Personal Storm will automatically buff your Cold Damage.
  3. Use Ice Shards to fire multiple projectiles on to enemies.
  4. Cast Roiling Magma once Overwhelm is full to deal Burst Damage.
  5. Activate Barrier and your potions to tank some damage and replenish Energy.
  6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 until all enemies are defeated.
