If you want to cause a Fusion Accident, then you'll want to perform a fusion during a Full or New Moon. While you can get a Fusion Accident whenever you fuse a new demon, it's more likely to happen on those moon phases.

As a note, if you get a Fusion Accident during a Full or New Moon, you will get the accident exclusive demon, Legion. However, if you get an accident during any other moon phase, you will get a demon with a high-level skill instead.

If you're aiming to collect every demon in the game, then you will need to perform a Fusion Accident to get Legion. This is the only way you can get this demon, so make sure it's a Full or New Moon when trying to fuse them.

Whenever you get a Fusion Accident whenever it's not a Full or New Moon, you will get a demon that's learned a high-level ability instead. This is great you want strong allies early, but the odds of this happening are extremely low.

If you want to try and force a non-Full or New Moon accident, you can try saving and reloading if you've failed. This may take a while before it happens, and it's generally recommended to progress the game instead.
