Upgrade Using Demon Materials
To use Sword Alchemy to upgrade your Katanas, you will need to use Demon Materials that are dropped from defeating enemies. Besides that, you will need the requisite sword listed under the requirements, as well as some Yen to fund the fusion.
Unlock New Summoner Skills
New katanas will also unlock Raidou-specific skills that the player can use in battle, making you stronger in upcoming fights. These skills cannot be learned by other demons so optimize your skills to cover all your bases in battle!
Improves Raidou's Stats
Upon upgrading a katana via Sword Alchemy, it will also receive bonuses that increase Raidou's stats. Besides looking at skills you'll want to unlock, it's also recommended to look at the stat bonuses you can get so you know which katanas fit the build you're going for.
Best Build and Stats to Level Up
Katanas Have Different Attack Types
Aside from the stat bonuses and skills, katanas also fall under three different categories, each with their own attacking-type. Although, these only affect the heavy attack of the weapon, and all the other combat mechanics will be the same regardless of the katana's type.
How Many Katanas Are There?
46 Katanas in the Remaster
Compared to the original version of the game, there are now 46 different katanas for Raidou to collect. However, 4 of these weapons are locked behind New Game Plus, meaning you'll need to beat the game once and play it again if you want to get and use these swords.
How to Unlock Sword Alchemy
Progress to Episode 3
Once you've reached Episode 3, Raidou can visit Dr. Victor in the Gouma-Den to have him perform Sword Alchemy and improve his katanas. Just make sure that you've gathered the requisite materials first, otherwise, you won't be able to upgrade your weapons even if the option for Sword Alchemy is now available.
