This is a guide to the Waterblight Ganon boss fight in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BotW).
List of Contents
Watch Waterblight Ganon's movements carefully to see what he will do next. He will have a set of attacks at the start, and another set of attacks once you reduce his HP to half.
Enlarge Spear Thrust |
Waterblight Ganon will hold the spear to his side and will thrust it forward. It has a short range so you can easily move away. |
Enlarge Spear Swipe |
He will raise the spear to his shoulder and will swipe the spear. Since the spear is long, it might easily reach you so dodge your way out. |
Enlarge Spear Throw |
He will raise his spear at an aiming pose to throw it at your position. Time your dodge when the spear is thrown. |
Enlarge Shockwave |
He bring the spear to his chest and will stab the spear to the ground, causing an AOE* shockwave. Before he stabs the spear to the ground, move away. |
*The attack damages a range of area instead of a single unit, or an AOE, area of effect.
The next attack Waterblight Ganon does depends on where you are relative to his position. Lock your target onto him by holding ZL. The movements before his attacks will tell you what he will do next so you can evade them easily.
There are pauses in between attacks. Use those moments to whip out your bow, and shoot arrows directly at his face for a stun.
If you do not have bows or arrows, wait for the perfect opportunity to equip your strongest weapon and deal your blows.
After bringing his HP to half, the second phase will start. Waterblight Ganon will flood the room, leaving you with 4 platforms to move into.
Enlarge Individual Ice Blocks |
Waterblight Ganon will conjure ice blocks one by one that you can destroy using Cryonisis. |
Multiple Ice Blocks |
Similar to Vah Ruta, multiple ice blocks will come at you. Destroy them one by one. |
Enlarge Laser |
Similar to Guardians, he will aim at you, following your movement, then will shoot a powerful laser. Perform a jump in time just before the laser hits. |
Using Stasis to deflect ice blocks and deal damage to Ganon is an effective strategy, especially if you run out of bows and arrows.
If there is only one ice block hurling towards you, switch your equipped rune to Stasis, and freeze the ice block just in front of you. Use a spear and hit it multiple times in Ganon's direction. It will fly to him, dealing heavy damage.
