There are four difficulty settings that you can choose from in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment—easy, normal, hard, and very hard.
Difficulty affects the HP of enemies, the amount of damage you take, and how fast you can deplete an enemy's Weak Point Gauge. The higher the difficulty, the more HP an enemy has and the stronger their Weak Point Gauge. You also take more damage per hit the higher your difficulty setting.

Each battle stores your records for each difficulty separately, so you have four different sets of high scores for each battle.
If you're trying to get a better Clear Time or KO record, make sure you're currently on the difficulty setting of the record you're trying to beat before starting the battle.
No matter which difficulty you choose, the base rewards for each battle are still the same. It's best to choose the difficulty you're most comfortable with, since you won't get any additional bonuses for going through a battle at the maximum difficulty.

You can adjust difficulty by opening the System menu using the Minus (-) button. Select Options, and you should be able to see the difficulty options in the General tab.
Once you've chosen the difficulty you want, select Apply to make the changes to your game settings.
Difficulty settings can be changed at any point in the game as long as you are not currently in a mission. If you need to change the difficulty, it's best to do it while on the Hyrule map before you enter any battle or challenge, or while you are on the title screen before starting the game.
