After Clearing The Howling Tempests in Chapter 2
You can play as the Mysterious Construct after clearing The Howling Tempests in Chapter 2. After you have completed the battle, the Mysterious Construct can be added to your party.

Appears Similar to Link
Although not much is known about the Mysterious Construct, this character bears a striking resemblance to the hero of Hyrule, Link, particularly the protagonist of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild.
The Mysterious Construct's stance is similar to how Link appears in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The Construct's hair is also similar to Link's untied hair in Tears of the Kingdom, and his attire resembles the Archaic Tunic given to Link near the beginning of that game.
May Contain Link's Spirit
Similar to how Mineru's spirit possessed a Construct in Tears of the Kingdom, Link's spirit may be possessing the Mysterious Construct in Age of Imprisonment.
Since Link was not present during the Imprisoning War thousands of years before the events of Tears of the Kingdom, this Mysterious Construct may be a way to still have Link be a part of this game. Every Zelda game has a version of Link in it, and Age of Imprisonment appears to be no exception.
Renamed as the Knight Construct in Chapter 4
Once you reach Chapter 4, it is revealed that the core of the Mysterious Construct actually contains a shard of the Master Sword. This prompts the Mysterious Construct to be renamed to the Knight Construct.

Actually the construct more likely houses Fi the sentience of the mastersword. she appears as link because she gave up her physical form when she activated her sleep inside the mastersword in SS so her subconscious chose the hero whom she had last chosen, BotW & TotK Link. she also adapted his physical stance and demeanor. Some support to this is that a little known fact about Fi is that it is genderless and only takes on the form of a young woman in SS.
