How to Unlock Precious Cargo
Speak to the merchant sitting on a log beside a campfire south of the Nilfgaardian Garrison.

You can find the merchant sitting on a log beside a campfire south of the Nilfgaardian Garrison.
Is Precious Cargo Missable or Failable?
You will miss and fail this quest once you start the Main Quest: Imperial Audience.
You will also fail this quest if the merchant escapes after you tell him that he is lying and you know the truth.
Precious Cargo Walkthrough

| 1 | Go back to the road and examine the clues using your Witcher Senses. |
| 2 | Go and investigate the new quest area while defeating some Drowners. |
| 3 | Return to the merchant and speak with him. |
| 4 | Chase down the merchant and defeat him and the bandits. |
| 5 | Deal with the merchant and the medicine. |
Consequences and Best Choice
Outcome 1
If you have fully investigated the area in the swamp, you will be given two choices after when you are about to return the small lockbox to the merchant. The first option will add more objectives and events to the quest.
- Picking the second option during this conversation will make Geralt give the medicine to the merchant end the quest immediately. You will get 25 XP and 10 Crowns for doing this.
Outcomes 2, 3, and 4
If you picked the first option during the previous conversation, another objective wherein you have to catch the escaping merchant starts. If you are able to knock down the merchant from his horse or defeat him and the bandits, you will be given 3 choices after.
- If you present him to the Nilfgaardians, you will get 10 XP and 30 Crowns for doing this. This outcome is the best choice if you morally side with the Nilfgaardians.
- If you let him go with the medicine, you will also get 10 XP and 30 Crowns for doing this. This outcome is the best choice if you morally side with the Temerians.
- If you let him go, but you decide to keep the medicine, you will get 10 XP, 50 Crowns, and 5x Celandine for doing this. This outcome is the best choice that will benefit you monetarily.
NOTE: All outcomes do not and will not affect Geralt negatively.
Precious Cargo Tips and Strategies
Combat Strategies
Drowners
- Coat your Silver Sword with Necrophage Oil to deal bonus damage to them.
- Cast the Igni Sign to burn them and give yourself an opening to attack.
Bandits (Humans)
- If you already have it, coat your Steel Sword with Hanged Man's Venom to deal bonus damage to them.
- Cast the Aard or Axii Sign to stagger them and give yourself an opening to attack.
Precious Cargo is somewhat worth doing
This quest gives you somewhat useful benefits when you complete it. It is up to you to decide whether the things you gain from this quest will benefit you greatly.
