Strategy
The Celestial Dragon commands the four seasons, transforming to unleash attacks that call on all the natural elements. You need a strategy to withstand them, noting in particular the element that corresponds to each season. Since the Orochi hovers in the air, it can be difficult to land attacks, so you can't afford to miss the chance to strike when the beast is briefly vulnerable after unleashing a power move.

How to Beat Celestial Dragon

Celestial Dragon Tips and Strategies

Aim for the Head, Limbs, and Tail

Wild Hearts - Aim for the Head, Limbs, and Tail
The Celestial Dragon's weakest part is its head, so prioritize dealing damage to this area as often as possible, especially after knocking it down. If landing hits on its head is too difficult, its front legs, hind legs, and tail are also excellent weak spots to target.

Play Defensively During the Hunt

Wild Hearts - Play Defensively During the Hunt
The Celestial Dragon heavily telegraphs most of its attacks with a unique wind-up or area indicator and often leaves itself open after performing its moves. We recommend playing defensively during this fight to exploit the Celestial Dragon's long openings and to prevent yourself from taking unnecessary damage from avoidable attacks.

Stay Mobile with Springs and Celestial Anchors

Wild Hearts - Stay Mobile with Springs and Celestial Anchors (Celestial Dragon)
The Celestial Dragon frequently repositions during the fight and has numerous attacks that cover large areas. We recommend using Spring or Celestial Anchor Karakuri when fighting this kemono to give yourself plenty of maneuverability and ways to close the gap toward them.

Utilize Repeater Crossbow and Harpoon Karakuri

Wild Hearts - Utilize Repeater Crossbow and Harpoon Karakuri (Celestial Dragon)
When hunting the Celestial Dragon, we highly recommend heavy usage of the Repeater Crossbow and Harpoon Karakuri.

  • The Repeater Crossbow is the most efficient Karakuri to build with excess thread, as it provides respectable passive damage output while the Celestial Dragon is out of reach.
  • The Harpoon Karakuri can interrupt and stagger some of the Celestial Dragon's attacks, allowing you to land devastating combos while the kemono leaves itself open.

Recover Thread Faster with Hunter's Arm

Wild Hearts - Restore Thread Faster with Hunter
While you passively regenerate Karakuri Thread throughout the Celestial Dragon fight, you can boost and recover your Thread count faster by using your Hunter's Arm on its glowing weaknesses.

Pick Up Parts Before the Final Blow

Before landing the Final Blow on the Celestial Dragon during the Chapter 4 encounter, you should pick up every broken and dropped part on the ground. Performing the Final Blow input at this point ends the fight immediately and transitions into a cutscene, giving you no time to collect the parts you've destroyed.

Dragon Lunge

Dragon Lunge Attack Information
Dragon Lunge: The Celestial Dragon rears backward before lunging its head and body forcefully toward the hunter, knocking them back and dealing heavy damage on hit. Dodge the attack with a well-timed sideways slide or Spring Karakuri, then land a quick counterattack on the kemono while it leaves itself open.

Body Slam

Body Slam Attack Information
Body Slam: The Celestial Dragon raises its body in the air before slamming it down on the ground to crush the hunter. Take note of this attack's unique wind-up, then sprint and dodge out of its path to avoid getting hit.

Boulder Volley

Boulder Volley Attack Information
Boulder Volley: The Celestial Dragon slams its head into the ground, launching massive rocks into the air that deal heavy damage on hit. Take note of this attack's distinct wind-up, then sprint out of the head slam and boulders' path to avoid getting hurt.

Tail Attacks

Tail Attack Variations
Heavy Tail Sweep: The Celestial Dragon postures its tail to one side before sweeping it across the arena, knocking away hunters caught in its path and dealing heavy damage on contact. Dodge through the sweeping tail or take advantage of the Spring Karakuri's extended invincibility frames to avoid getting hurt by this attack.
Quick Tail Sweep: While flying upright, the Celestial Dragon can quickly whip its tail across the arena, dealing moderate damage on hit and knocking back hunters that stick too close. Like the Heavy Tail Sweep, dodge through the sweeping tail or quickly reposition out of its path to avoid getting hit.
Tail Flick: The Celestial Dragon twirls in the air before dragging its tail through the ground and forcefully flicking it upward, knocking back hunters on hit. Dodge or slide sideways to avoid this attack, then prepare to follow the Celestial Dragon as it repositions.
Flying Tail Slam: The Celestial Dragon twists its body in the air before slamming its massive tail on top of the hunter, dealing heavy damage on contact. Evade sideways or use a Spring Karakuri to avoid the attack, then quickly reposition to deal damage to the kemono while it leaves itself open.

Seasonal Attacks

Seasonal Attack Variations
Seasonal Shift: The Celestial Dragon repositions before rapidly changing the arena's season, terraforming the locale and enhancing its own moves with different elements.

Spring, signified by pink cherry blossoms, provides the Dragon with lightning and Wind-based attacks.
Summer, signified by trees with bright-green leaves and a watery explosion, provides the Dragon with Fire-based attacks.
Autumn, signified by trees with bright-orange leaves, provides the Dragon with Earth-based attacks.
Winter, signified by snow covering the arena, provides the Dragon with Ice-based attacks.
Elemental Beam: Depending on the season, the Celestial Dragon can fire a sweeping elemental beam across the arena, dealing massive damage and causing ailment build-up on contact. To deal with this attack, quickly reposition out of the beam's path with a Spring Karakuri or stick to the kemono's sides to avoid getting hit.
Spring Lightning Fields: While in Spring, the Celestial Dragon scatters multiple electric fields that call down lightning after a short delay, dealing heavy damage on hit. When this attack occurs, stay mobile by sprinting, sliding, and using Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hurt by lightning strikes.
Spring Lightning Barrage: While in Spring, the Celestial Dragon flies over the arena, causing a barrage of rapid lightning strikes to appear along its path. Reposition out of the kemono's way with multiple slides or a Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hit by lightning.
Spring Tornado Strike: While in Spring, the Celestial Dragon pulls in hunters with a tornado before slamming its lightning-enhanced head on the ground. To deal with this attack, let the tornado pull you inward while avoiding any electric fields, then use a well-timed dodge or Spring Karakuri to avoid the kemono's head slam.
Summer Fireball Scatter: While in Summer, the Celestial Dragon spins around on the ground with fire in its mouth, scattering fireballs around that deal moderate damage on hit. Note that these fireballs can hover in the air or follow the hunter around, so mind your positioning and stay mobile whenever this attack occurs.
Summer Homing Fireball: While in Summer, the Celestial Dragon builds up flames in its mouth before releasing a large homing explosive fireball toward the hunter. Outmaneuver the fireball with well-timed slides and Spring Karakuri or take cover behind a Bulwark Karakuri to deal with this attack.
Summer Fire Quake: While in Summer, the Celestial Dragon spews fire into the ground, causing the area around it to inflict Ablaze build-up before releasing all of the flames in a high-damage fiery explosion. Reposition away from the kemono with multiple slides or a Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hurt by this attack.
Autumn Earth Spikes: While in Autumn, the Celestial Dragon causes rocky spikes to erupt from the ground and follow the hunter, dealing moderate damage on hit. When this attack occurs, stay mobile by sprinting, sliding, and using Spring Karakuri to avoid the erupting rocks.
Autumn Dragon Dive: While in Autumn, the Celestial Dragon can dive into the ground before forcefully emerging beneath the hunter. To deal with this attack, avoid the kemono's initial dive, then reposition away from crumbling earth and dust to dodge the dragon's exit.
Winter Ice Quake: While in Winter, the Celestial Dragon causes ice to build up in the ground beneath it before releasing a massive barrage of erupting ice spikes outward, dealing heavy damage and inflicting Freezing build-up on hit. To avoid this attack, steer away from the ice spikes' path with multiple slides or Spring Karakuri.

Celestial Rage Attacks

Celestial Rage Attack Variations
Scattered Celestial Orbs: When the Celestial Dragon becomes enraged, it surrounds its body with celestial orbs that launch themselves toward the player and deal moderate damage on contact. Evade out of each orb's path as they fly toward you to avoid getting hit.
Celestial Orb Barrage: While enraged, the Celestial Dragon roars loudly before sending a barrage of celestial orbs toward the hunter. To deal with this attack, dodge sideways out of each orb's path to avoid getting hurt.
Celestial Rain: While enraged, the Celestial Dragon flies away from the arena, causing celestial energy to rain down on the hunter. Afterward, it ends the rainfall with a laser that causes a massive explosion.

When this attack occurs, keep away from the attack indicators on the ground by sprinting, sliding, and using Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hurt.
Celestial Orb Breath: While enraged, the Celestial Dragon breathes out a sweeping flame of celestial energy, spawning numerous celestial orbs that launch themselves toward the player. When this attack occurs, move away from the Celestial Dragon's breath, then dodge sideways out of each orb's path to avoid getting hit.
Celestial Dragon Dive: While enraged, the Celestial Dragon gains access to its Autumn Dragon Dive, letting the kemono dive into the ground before forcefully emerging beneath the hunter. To deal with this attack, avoid the kemono's initial dive, then reposition away from crumbling earth and dust to dodge the dragon's exit.
Celestial Lightning Barrage: While enraged, the Celestial Dragon gains access to its Spring Lightning Barrage, letting the kemono fly over the arena and launch a lightning strike barrage along its path. Reposition out of the kemono's way with multiple slides or a Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hit by lightning.
