This awesome bird absorbs celestial thread from its surroundings, filling its entire body so it swells with power and rage. But it's this time when the kemono is absorbing thread that you have a chance to attack. Though its attacks are especially brutal when it's angered, its wings are also more vulnerable in that state, giving you an opportunity to counter. You might also find a harpoon karakuri effective in hampering the bird's movements. |

Amaterasu Tips and Strategies |
---|
|
The Amaterasu has the Wood attribute as its element and performs plenty of hard-hitting attacks and combos throughout the fight. We highly recommend investing in a solid Wood-resistant armor set, like the Mighty Kingtusk Set, to improve your survivability when fighting this kemono.
The Amaterasu's weakest part is its head, so prioritize dealing damage to these areas as often as possible, especially after knocking it down. If staying near the front of the Amaterasu is too risky, you can deal safer and more consistent damage by targeting its wings and body.
The Amaterasu can take out careless hunters within two or three attacks, so avoid recklessly attacking the kemono and playing too aggressively during the fight. Instead, we recommend prioritizing dodging its multi-hit attacks and landing counterattacks when the Amaterasu is open.
During the Amaterasu fight in Minato, the arena provided is small and has plenty of small bumps and crevices that can cause players to lose their footing. Avoid getting cornered and making yourself vulnerable to attacks by always watching your positioning during this encounter.
We highly recommend unlocking and using the Repeater Crossbow Karakuri when fighting against the Amaterasu. This Fusion Karakuri can deal plenty of passive damage while knocking the kemono out of the sky and interrupting its Thread Absorption attack.
You can awaken the Repeater Crossbow Karakuri by bringing the Glider and Stake Karakuri when fighting the Fumebeak.
When the Amaterasu flies high and performs its Grand Solar Flare while enraged, bring it down to the ground and leave it open for damaging combos by using the Harpoon Karakuri. You awaken this Karakuri near the end of the Amaterasu fight in Minato.
Before landing the Final Blow on Amaterasu in Minato, you should pick up every broken and dropped part on the ground. Performing the Final Blow input during this fight immediately transitions into a cutscene, giving you no time to collect the parts you've destroyed.

Wing Swipes Attack Information |
---|
Wing Swipes: The Amaterasu performs two alternating wing swipes toward the hunter, knocking them down and dealing light damage on hit. You can avoid this attack by dodging through the Amaterasu's legs or evading away from each wing swipe as they occur. |
Grab and Slam Attack Information |
---|
Grab and Slam: The Amaterasu lets out an extended screech before diving toward the hunter, grabbing them and slamming them into the ground. Take note of this attack's unique windup and quickly evade out of the kemono's path with a well-timed dodge or Spring Karakuri. |
Thread Absorption Attack Information |
---|
Thread Absorption: The Amaterasu glows green and begins absorbing celestial thread from the environment, causing small explosions to erupt from the ground and finishing its attack with a large thread explosion. To deal with this attack, sprint out of the Amaterasu's radius, then interrupt its attack with a Repeater Crossbow Karakuri. |
Beak and Wing Combo Attack Information |
---|
Beak and Wing Combo: The Amaterasu slams its beak onto the ground twice before ending its combo with a flipping wing strike, dealing moderate damage with each hit. Dodge away from the Amaterasu's head to avoid the first two strikes, then prepare to evade sideways to avoid the kemono's wings. |
Diving Attack Variations |
---|
Vertical Dive Bomb: The Amaterasu leaps high into the air and screeches before rapidly diving down to slam its sharp claws on the hunter, dealing heavy damage on contact. Listen for the end of the Amaterasu's screech, then quickly sideways to avoid getting hurt. When enraged, the Amaterasu can perform this attack twice in a row, so be prepared to evade follow-up dive bombs when they occur. |
Swooping Lunge: While in the air, the Amaterasu can rapidly dive toward the hunter, dealing heavy damage with each attack. Evade sideways away from the swooping lunge's path to avoid getting hurt. Note that the Amaterasu can perform this attack twice in a row and has multiple follow-ups, such as the Vertical Dive Bomb and Dive and Crush Combo. |
Dive and Crush Combo: The Amaterasu dives toward the hunter, knocking them down with its wings before looping around to crush them under its claws, dealing heavy damage with each blow. To deal with this combo, evade sideways to avoid the first strike, then prepare to dodge again to avoid the kemono's claws. |
Feather-Based Attack Variations |
---|
Feather Barrage: The Amaterasu leaps to the air before sending out a barrage of feathers that explode as they hit the ground. Avoid this attack with a well-timed evade or Spring Karakuri, then prepare to dodge any follow-up attacks from the flying kemono. |
Twin Feather Launch: While hovering in the air, the Amaterasu can send out two feather clusters in a row, covering a wide area in front of it. Evade sideways away from the path of each explosive feather barrage to avoid getting hit. |
Retreating Feather Volley: The Amaterasu flutters backward before launching a fan of explosive feathers toward the hunter. Like the Feather Barrage, you can avoid this attack with a well-timed evade or Spring Karakuri. |
Enraged Solar Attack Variations |
---|
Furious Solar Explosion: When the Amaterasu becomes enraged, it channels solar energy into its wings and causes a tree to grow before releasing a massive explosion around itself. Quickly evade backward or use a Spring Karakuri to reposition away from the kemono while it performs this attack. |
Solar Dive Combo: While enraged, the Amaterasu performs two Swooping Lunges in succession before ending its combo with a Vertical Dive Bomb. Dodge sideways to avoid each Swooping Lunge, then prepare to evade away from the incoming dive bomb to avoid getting hurt. |
Solar Laser Fly-By: While enraged, the Amaterasu fires a solar laser across the ground while flying through the air, leaving delayed explosions in its path. Quickly evade sideways out of the laser's path and use a Spring Karakuri or a well-timed dodge to avoid any follow-up explosions. |
Solar Laser Sweep: While enraged, the Amaterasu fires a sweeping solar laser across the area in front of it, leaving delayed explosions in its path and ending its attack with a deadly screech. Use a Spring Karakuri to quickly reposition to the end of the laser's path, then move behind the kemono to avoid its screech attack. |
Solar Orb Explosion: While enraged, the Amaterasu charges up an orb near its beak before detonating it to release a massive spherical explosion. Avoid this attack by sprinting away from the kemono or using a Spring Karakuri to jump away from the explosion radius. |
Grand Solar Flare: While enraged, the Amaterasu flies into the air and conjures solar rings while charging energy near its beak. After channeling enough power, it releases a massive solar flare toward the ground, causing a large explosion that deals heavy damage. Summon a Harpoon Karakuri to prevent the Amaterasu from completing this attack. Otherwise, use a Spring Karakuri or well-timed dodge to avoid the solar flare as it occurs. |
