Strategy
Though it's a slow mover, the massive bulk this kemono can put behind its numerous attacks can be overwhelming. Fortunately, the kingtusk has numerous weak spots, and if you can cling on and use your Hunter's Arm to wear it down, you should have a successful hunt. You'll also want to conjure karakuri as appropriate to deal with certain attacks, for example, a bulwark when it charges, and a spring when it makes the ground quake.

How to Beat Kingtusk

Kingtusk Tips and Strategies

Target the Kingtusk's Head and Legs

The Kingtusk's weakest part is its head, so prioritize dealing damage to this area as often as possible, especially after knocking it down. However, if it's too unsafe to stay near its head, you can deal safer and more consistent damage by targeting its legs.

Stay Patient During the Fight

Despite being a large and slow target, each of the Kingtusk's attacks deals large amounts of damage on hit. Avoid overcommitting with your attacks, and prioritize counterattacking during the Kingtusk's openings after each of its moves.

Utilize Bulwark Karakuri

When the Kingtusk performs its Relentless Charge, quickly build a Bulwark Karakuri to knock it down and leave it open to your most damaging combos. You can create the Bulwark Karakuri by stacking two 3-block-tall Crate Karakuri towers together.

Use Hunter's Arm to Boost Threads

Since the Kingtusk fight can be demanding on your Karakuri Thread count, we highly recommend taking advantage of the Kingtusk's large weakness zones with your Hunter's Arm.

Sheathe your weapon, climb onto the Kingtusk, and use the Hunter's Arm command to quickly refill and boost your Karakuri Threads.

Rock Toss

Rock Toss Attack Information
Rock Toss: The Kingtusk shoves its tusks into the earth before rearing its head upward, sending a volley of rocks flying toward the hunter. Take note of this attack's unique windup and prepare to dodge sideways out of each rock's path when it occurs.

Head Slam Attack Information
Head Slam: The Kingtusk lifts its head momentarily before slamming it down on the ground, dealing moderate damage on contact. Quickly dodge away from its head when it starts up this attack to avoid getting hit.

Side Tackle

Side Tackle: The Kingtusk slams its heavy body sideways, dealing moderate damage and knocking back any hunter caught in its path. To deal with this attack, use a Spring Karakuri or evade out of the tackle's path when the Kingtusk starts looking sideways.

Sweeping Attacks

Sweeping Attack Variations
Tusk Sweep: The Kingtusk rears its head to one side before quickly sweeping it across, knocking hunters back and dealing moderate damage on hit. Quickly dodge away from its head when it starts up this attack to avoid getting hit.
Sweep and Slam Combo: The Kingtusk swings its massive tusks from one side to the other before slamming its head down on the hunter, dealing heavy damage with each blow. Since this combo shares a similar windup animation with Tusk Sweep, always prepare to dodge each hit of this combo when the Kingtusk starts rearing its head to one side.

Relentless Charge: The Kingtusk scratches at the ground with its hoof a few times before charging toward the hunter, dealing massive damage on contact. Watch for this attack's distinct tell and quickly place a Bulwark Karakuri to interrupt the kemono's charge and leave it open for easy damage.

Root-Based Attacks

Root-Based Attack Variations
Root Eruption: The Kingtusk shakes its head and body before causing numerous roots to erupt from the ground. Watch the ground for crumbling earth and quickly move out of the roots' way to avoid getting hurt.

In addition, the Kingtusk always performs this move as it transitions into its enraged state.
Root Spike Wave: While the Kingtusk is enraged, it can let out a loud roar before launching a wave of spiky roots toward the player, dealing moderate damage on hit. To deal with this attack, use a Spring Karakuri or dodge out of the roots' path to avoid getting hurt.
