Strategy
The sap that flies off this kemono when it sneezes could either cause you to black out, or get stuck and therefore struggle to evade the beast's onslaughts. So be very careful of any follow-up attacks. The tail is softer than it looks, and severing it will greatly reduce the beast's attack range, so you should focus on taking out your target piecemeal.

How to Beat Sapscourge

Sapscourge Tips and Strategies

Target the Sapscourge's Head and Tail

The Sapscourge's most vulnerable part is its head, so prioritize dealing damage to this area as often as possible, especially after knocking it down.

In addition, cutting off the Sapscourge's tail also makes it easier to handle, as doing so reduces the range of most of its attacks.

Stay Mobile During the Fight

The Sapscourge often performs follow-up attacks after its immobilizing moves, so staying mobile is crucial when hunting this Giant Kemono. Avoid overcommitting with your attacks, and always be prepared to dodge sideways out of the Sapscourge's moves.

Utilize Spring Karakuri

When dealing with the Sapscourge's wide-reaching attacks and immobilizing sap, we recommend using a Spring Karakuri to quickly reposition yourself while removing the sticky sap from your body. You awaken and unlock this Karakuri after taking down the Ragetail for the first time.

Sapscourge Attacks and Moves

Name Description
Triple Paw Slam The Sapscourge performs two alternating paw slams before simultaneously crashing down both of its arms on top of the hunter.
Sapscourge Charge The Sapscourge rears its head back before rapidly charging toward the hunter and slamming its body on top of them.
Deafening Clap The Sapscourge spreads its arms apart before clapping its paws together, causing a deafening shockwave.
Body Slam The Sapscourge lifts its body on its tail before slamming its weight down on the hunter.
Rolling Attacks The Sapscourge lifts its body to one side before rolling forward or sideward to crush the hunter.
Tail Attacks The Sapscourge can sweep and slam its massive tail around during combat.
Sap Attacks The Sapscourge uses its sticky sap to damage and immobilize nearby hunters.
Furious Grab When enraged, the Sapscourge can grab the hunter, crushing them between its hands and slamming them into the ground.

Triple Paw Slam

Triple Paw Slam Attack Information
Triple Paw Slam: The Sapscourge performs two alternating paw slams before simultaneously crashing down both of its arms on top of the hunter, dealing moderate damage and knocking them backward. Watch for when the Sapscourge lifts its paws, then dodge each strike accordingly to deal with this combo.

Note that the Sapscourge can end this combo with a Sapscourge Charge instead, so always stay alert for different follow-up attacks. In addition, when enraged, the Sapscourge releases clusters of sticky sap with each paw slam, making it more difficult to avoid.

Sapscourge Charge

Sapscourge Charge Attack Information
Sapscourge Charge: The Sapscourge rears its head back before rapidly charging toward the hunter and slamming its body on top of them. This attack has a very linear trajectory, so evade sideways out of the Sapscourge's charging path to avoid getting hit.

Deafening Clap

Deafening Clap Attack Information
Deafening Clap: The Sapscourge spreads its arms apart before clapping its paws together, causing a shockwave that deafens and stuns a hunter for a short period. The Sapscourge often follows this attack with a Body Slam, so you should quickly evade sideways after recovering from the stun to avoid getting hit.

Body Slam

Body Slam Attack Information
Body Slam: The Sapscourge lifts its body on its tail before slamming its weight down on the hunter, dealing heavy damage on hit. When this attack occurs, start sprinting to one side before dodging just as the Sapscourge falls forward to avoid getting hurt.

In addition, when enraged, the Sapscourge releases clusters of sticky sap as it slams down, making it more difficult to land counterattacks.

Rolling Attacks

Rolling Attack Variations
Forward Roll: The Sapscourge raises its arms and stands on its hind legs before rolling forward to crush the hunter with its massive body. While this attack takes a linear and easy-to-dodge path, it has a lingering hitbox, so stay away from the Sapscourge until it finishes.

In addition, when enraged, the Sapscourge releases a trail of sticky sap as it rolls and slams its body down, making it more difficult to move around the arena.
Sideward Roll: The Sapscourge raises the limbs on one side of its body before rolling over toward that direction, dealing moderate damage on hit and knocking hunters backward. This attack has a wide hitbox, so we recommend quickly sprinting out of its path or using a Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hurt.

Tail Attacks

Tail Attack Variations
Tail Sweep: The Sapscourge moves its tail to one side before spinning in place to sweep it around, knocking hunters back and dealing moderate damage on hit. This move has a subtle tell, so always keep an eye on the kemono's tail to determine when it occurs.

In addition, when enraged, the Sapscourge releases clusters of sticky sap around its body while performing this move, making it more difficult to land counterattacks.
Tail Slam: When hunters stick too close behind the Sapscourge, it can lift its tail up and rapidly slam it down on top of them, dealing moderate damage and knocking them backward. Stay alert for this attack whenever you deal continuous damage to its tail.

Sap Attacks

Sap Attack Variations
Sap Toss: The Sapscourge rubs its hands together to accumulate sap before tossing it in a cluster toward the hunter. Getting hit by this attack deals moderate damage and covers you in sap, so quickly evade sideways out of its path to avoid becoming immobilized.
Sap Sneeze: The Sapscourge recoils its head a few times before releasing a forceful sneeze, sending a rapid volley of sap toward the hunter. Take note of this attack's unique windup and prepare to dodge sideways out of the sneeze's path to avoid the sticky sap.

Furious Grab

Furious Grab Attack Information
Furious Grab: When enraged, the Sapscourge can rub its head, covering its palms in sticky sap. Afterward, it lunges toward the hunter, grabbing and crushing them between its hands before slamming them onto the ground, dealing massive damage.

This attack can easily knock out hunters at half-health, so always keep an eye out for this attack while the Sapscourge is enraged.
