Strategy
You mustn't be flustered by the way the golden tempest shifts from apparent lethargy to lightning speed in the blink of an eye. Watch carefully for the moment of its attack, and avoid its powerful whirlwinds by taking cover behind obstacles. Beware angering the beast, for then the wind it summons rages stronger, and its attacks grow more fierce. What you may find useful, is a celestial cannon fired from a safe distance.

How to Beat Golden Tempest

Golden Tempest Tips and Strategies

Avoid Using Wind Attribute Weapons

Wild Hearts - Avoid Using Wind Attribute Weapons (Golden Tempest)
The Wind attribute is not effective against the Golden Tempest, so we recommend avoiding using weapons with this element. If your primary weapon currently holds the Wind element, consider rolling it back and upgrading to a node with Fire, Earth, or no elemental attributes instead.

Wear Wind-Resistant Armor

The Golden Tempest has several hard-hitting Wind-based attacks and projectiles that can easily take out careless hunters. We highly recommend investing in a solid Wind-resistant armor set, like the Sable Mara Set, to improve your survivability when fighting this kemono.

Aim for the Golden Tempest's Head and Tail

Wild Hearts - Aim for the Golden Tempest
The Golden Tempest's weakest part is its head, so prioritize dealing damage to this area as often as possible, especially after knocking it down. However, if staying close to its head is too risky, we recommend targeting its tail, as it's the kemono's second weakest part.

Play Safe and Stay Calm During the Hunt

Wild Hearts - Play Safe and Stay Calm During the Hunt
Most of the Golden Tempest's attacks have a long wind-up and short delay before they land, which punishes hunters that roll and dodge too often. In addition, each of the kemono's moves and combos can easily take out careless hunters in one to two hits.

To improve your survivability when fighting the Golden Tempest, stay calm when dodging each of its moves and play safe by prioritizing dodging its attacks and counterattacking during pronounced openings.

Stay Mobile with Springs and Celestial Anchors

Wild Hearts - Stay Mobile with Springs and Celestial Anchors
The Golden Tempest can attack with its whirlwinds from afar and cover plenty of ground with its lunging and diving attacks. We recommend heavily using Spring and Celestial Anchor Karakuri when fighting this kemono to give yourself plenty of maneuverability and ways to close the gap toward them.

Utilize Celestial Cannon and Harpoon Karakuri

Wild Hearts - Utilize Celestial Cannon and Harpoon Karakuri
When hunting the Golden Tempest, we highly recommend heavy usage of the Celestial Cannon and Harpoon Karakuri.

  • The Celestial Cannon Karakuri allows you to interrupt the kemono's most devastating attacks while dealing heavy damage on hit and leaving it staggered for an extended period. You can awaken this Fusion Karakuri by bringing the Celestial Anchor and Torch Karakuri while hunting the Golden Tempest.
  • The Harpoon Karakuri, while dealing less damage than the Celestial Cannon, provides quicker staggers and interrupts during the fight with a lower Karakuri thread cost.

Tempest Paw Slam

Tempest Paw Slam Attack Information
Tempest Paw Slam: The Golden Tempest stands on its hind legs before performing a delayed paw slam, dealing moderate damage on hit and leaving itself open for a short period afterward. Dodge sideways just as the kemono drops its paw, then land a quick counterattack while it recovers from its attack.

Tempest Lunge

Tempest Lunge Attack Information
Tempest Lunge: The Golden Tempest rears its body backward before rapidly lunging toward the hunter, knocking them back and dealing moderate damage on hit. Move away from the kemono's head with a well-timed slide, dodge, or Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hit by this attack.

Leaping Paw Slam

Leaping Paw Slam Attack Information
Leaping Paw Slam: The Golden Tempest roars, jumping into the air before slamming its paw on top of the hunter after a short delay, dealing moderating damage on hit. To deal with this attack, dodge away from the kemono just as it starts falling from the sky to avoid getting hit.

Note that the Golden Tempest can pull you toward itself with a whirlwind before it performs this move, so mind your positioning whenever this occurs.

Tempest Body Tackle

Tempest Body Tackle Attack Information
Tempest Body Tackle: The Golden Tempest leaps backward, storing energy before tackling the hunter with its full body weight, dealing heavy damage on contact and leaving itself staggered for a short period. To deal with this attack, move out of the kemono's way with the slide or Spring Karakuri, then land a quick counterattack while it recovers.

Tail Attacks

Tail Attack Variations
Tail Spin: The Golden Tempest lets out a short roar before rapidly spinning in place, using its tail and body to knock away nearby hunters. Stay alert for this attack when sticking too close to the Golden Tempest's rear.

Note that the Golden Tempest can pull you toward itself with a whirlwind before it performs this move, so mind your positioning whenever this occurs.
Tail Wind Slash: The Golden Tempest lifts its body using its front paws before whipping its tail downward, sending a swift wind projectile toward the hunter. Take note of this attack's unique wind-up and quickly evade sideways out of the tail and wind's path to avoid getting hurt.

Note that the Golden Tempest can push you away with a whirlwind before it performs this move, so mind your positioning whenever this occurs.

Wind Orb Attacks

Wind Orb Attack Variations
Wind Orb Hurl: The Golden Tempest launches a single wind orb toward the ground, which explodes after a short delay and deals moderate damage on hit. Keep an eye on the kemono's mouth and dodge away from the orb's impact zone to avoid getting hurt by this attack.

Note that the Golden Tempest can push you away with a whirlwind before it performs this move, so mind your positioning whenever this occurs.
Wind Orb Launch: The Golden Tempest leaps backward before launching an explosive wind orb toward the hunter, dealing moderate damage on hit. Move out of the orb's path with a well-timed slide, dodge, or Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hit.
Wind Orb Scatter: The Golden Tempest charges up energy near its mouth before scattering numerous explosive wind orbs around its body. When this attack occurs, quickly sprint or evade away from each orb's radius and prepare for any follow-up moves from the kemono.

Combo Attacks

Combo Attack Variations
Orb, Tackle, and Slam Combo: The Golden Tempest roars before letting out a Wind Orb Hurl, performing a Tempest Tackle, and ending its combo with a Leaping Paw Slam. Use a well-timed slide or Spring Karakuri to move away from the first two attacks, then prepare to dodge sideways to avoid the final paw slam.
Slam, Spin, and Slash Combo: The Golden Tempest roars before performing a Leaping Paw Slam into a Tail Spin and ending its combo with a Tail Wind Slash. Avoid the first attack with a well-time dodge, then quickly reposition away from the kemono with a slide or Spring Karakuri to have an easier time evading the latter two moves.
Pounce and Spin Combo: The Golden Tempest stands on its hind legs before performing up to two rapid pounces into a Tail Spin, with each attack dealing moderate damage on hit. Stay alert for the attack's distinct wind-up and dodge out of the kemono's path to avoid getting hurt.
Bite and Slam Combo: The Golden Tempest bites down at the hunter before jumping away to perform a Leaping Paw Slam. To deal with this combo, evade away from the kemono's mouth, then prepare to dodge sideways to avoid the incoming paw slam.

Enraged Wind Attacks

Enraged Wind Attack Variations
Furious Wind Vortex: When the Golden Tempest becomes enraged, it conjures a massive whirlwind around its body, pulling nearby hunters inward before releasing a large explosion. Use multiple slides and Spring Karakuri to get out of the vortex's radius and avoid getting hurt by this attack.
Wind Orb Slam: While enraged, the Golden Tempest roars upward, conjuring a wind orb in the air that it leaps toward and slams down on the hunter, causing a large explosion that deals massive damage. Dodge or slide away from the kemono just as it starts falling toward the ground to avoid getting hurt by this attack.
Triple Leaping Slam: While enraged, the Golden Tempest lets out a mighty roar before performing two Leaping Paw Slams and ending its combo with a Wind Orb Slam.

To deal with this combo, dodge away from the kemono just as it starts falling from the sky to avoid each paw slam. We also recommend using a Spring Karakuri and its extended invincibility frames to deal with the final orb-enhanced slam.
Triple Orb Hurl: While enraged, the Golden Tempest stores energy in its mouth before sweeping its head across to launch three explosive wind orbs. Reposition away from each of the orbs' impact zone or stick close to the kemono's sides to avoid getting hurt by this attack.

Note that the Golden Tempest can push you away with a whirlwind before it performs this move and continue attacking with a follow-up Wind Orb Slam, so mind your positioning and stay alert whenever these variations occur.
Twin Tempest Tackle: While enraged, the Golden Tempest pushes the hunter away with its whirling winds before performing two Tempest Body Tackles, dealing heavy damage on contact. Sprint and dodge sideways away from the path of each pounce to avoid getting hit.
Grand Tempest Orb: While enraged, the Golden Tempest stands tall on its hind legs and begins charging a massive wind orb near its mouth. After gathering enough energy, it launches the orb toward the hunter, causing a large explosion that nearly guarantees a one-hit-kill on contact.

To deal with this attack, interrupt the Golden Tempest with a Celestial Cannon Karakuri or avoid getting hurt by the explosion with a well-timed slide, dodge, or Spring Karakuri jump.
