Strategy
Sending molten rock flying into the air over a wide area, and using its far reaching arms for rapid pummeling, the lavaback causes a lot to anguish by mixing long- and short-range attacks. There are warning signs where the ground is about to erupt, however, so with careful observation, you should be able to dodge out of the way. Another useful tactic could be bolstering your elemental resilience, for example by conjuring an elemental lantern.

Upgrade Tsukumo

Upgrading your Tsukumo will greatly help for this hunt, as it assists you better with its utilities and increases the number of karakuri threads you can carry. From our experience, this hunt requires mastery of karakuri, so having more set ups will greatly help.

Utilize Bulwark and Pounder Karakuri

The Lavaback has a number of fast charging attacks which you can exploit by setting the bulwark karakuri to halt the attack and stagger the Lavaback. This kemono also has attack patterns that have intervals, you can use this time for setting the pounder Karakuri to deal extra damage against the Lavaback.

Target Its Head and Body

The softest part of a Lavaback is its head, followed by its body. Targeting these areas frequently would break them and would ultimately weaken the Lavaback.

Time Your Dodges

The dodge timing for the Lavaback's attacks are much harder than that of other Kemonos encountered as it combines both mobility and power in its attacks, making it harder to predict or observe.

2023 and people still don't get it. Terrible guide. The classic terrible guide, that basically says "To help beat "X" monster, you need certain material to craft armor/weapon. To get this material, you have to go through "X" monster". Poison weapons, and Fumebeaks armor set cannot be made until we go through Lavaback. Stuff like the Mirror Stone and other materials are accessible in later chapters AFTER Lavaback.
