How to Beat Ripclaw

Ripclaw Tips and Strategies

Avoid Using Wind Attribute Weapons

Wild Hearts - Avoid Using Wind Attribute Weapons
The Wind attribute isn't effective against the Ripclaw, so we recommend avoiding using weapons with this element. If your primary weapon currently holds the Wind element, consider rolling it back and upgrading to a node with Wood, Fire, Earth, or no elemental attributes.

Target the Ripclaw's Head and Throat

Wild Hearts - Target the Ripclaw
Like the Dreadclaw, the Ripclaw's weakest parts are its head and throat, so prioritize dealing damage to these areas as often as possible, especially after knocking it down. However, if staying near the front of the Ripclaw is too risky, you can deal safer and more consistent damage by targeting its body and tail.

Steer Clear of Sleep-Inducing Eggs

Wild Hearts - Steer Clear of Sleep-Inducing Eggs
Some of the Ripclaw's attacks involve launching its smoke-filled eggs toward you, which cause a sleep-inducing fog to linger around the area. Avoid getting hit by these eggs as much as possible, and quickly reposition away from the fog-covered areas using Spring Karakuri.

Utilize Firework and Pounder Karakuri

Wild Hearts - Utilize Firework and Pounder Karakuri
The Ripclaw tends to stay in the air while enraged, making it a difficult target to pin down. We recommend using the Firework and Pounder Karakuri to knock the Ripclaw out of the air and deal damage to it while airborne.

Ripclaw Attacks and Moves

Name Description
Diving Kicks The Ripclaw leaps in the air before performing multiple diving kicks.
Scream Shockwave The Ripclaw lets out a violent roar, sending out a rippling shockwave.
Charging Attacks The Ripclaw charges toward the hunter to hit them with its massive beak and body.
Slam Attacks The Ripclaw can crush the hunter by slamming its beak and body down on top of them.
Egg-Based Attacks The Ripclaw can utilize smoke-filled eggs in its attacks to cause sleep-inducing fog to linger around the area.
Flying Attacks The Ripclaw can toss projectiles and dive toward the hunter while in the air.
Tree Summon When the Ripclaw becomes enraged, it summons a tree surrounding itself for defense and obstruction against hunters.

Diving Kicks

Diving Kicks Attack Information
Diving Kicks: The Ripclaw leaps in the air before performing multiple diving kicks toward the hunter, dealing moderate damage on hit. To deal with this attack, evade sideways just as the divekick lands and prepare to dodge any follow-up kicks.

Scream Shockwave

Scream Shockwave Attack Information
Scream Shockwave: The Ripclaw lets out a violent roar, sending a rippling shockwave toward a hunter that deals heavy damage on contact. Quickly dodge sideways to avoid the incoming shockwave, then counter the kemono by dealing as much damage as possible while it finishes the move.

Charging Attacks

Charging Attack Variations
Running Charge: The Ripclaw charges forward, knocking away any hunter caught in its path and dealing heavy damage on contact. You can deal with this attack by dodging sideways out of the kemono's path or using a Bulwark Karakuri to interrupt its stampede.
Beak Lunge: The Ripclaw rears its head to one side before rapidly lunging toward the hunter, dealing moderate damage and knocking them back. Take note of this attack's unique windup and quickly evade out of the kemono's path with a well-timed dodge or Spring Karakuri.

Slam Attacks

Slam Attack Variations
Backward Slam: The Ripclaw jumps and lands on its back, crushing any hunters that stick too close behind it. Stay alert for this attack whenever you deal continuous damage to the kemono's rear and tail.
Beak Slam: The Ripclaw quickly rears its head before slamming its beak on the ground thrice, dealing moderate damage with each strike. Avoid this attack by dodging past the kemono, then counterattack by hitting its rear.
Slam and Flip Combo: The Ripclaw slams its beak on top of the hunter before flying and whipping its tail upward to knock them away. Dodge away from its head to avoid the beak slam, then quickly evade sideways out of the flipping tail's path to avoid getting hit.

Egg-Based Attacks

Egg-Based Attack Variations
Backward Egg Volley: The Ripclaw turns its back on the hunter before releasing a volley of three smoke-filled eggs, dealing moderate damage on hit and causing sleep-inducing smoke to linger around the area. When this attack occurs, quickly evade away from each egg's impact zone and use a Spring Karakuri to reposition away from the somnolent smoke.
Tail Whip Egg Barrage: The Ripclaw twists its body to one side before performing two rapid tail whips, ending its combo by launching a barrage of smoke-filled egg bombs in front of it. Stay alert for this attack's unique windup and quickly dodge away from the kemono to avoid each hit of the combo.
Soporific Rump Slam: The Ripclaw hovers in the air for a short period before releasing a few eggs and crushing them with its rear, knocking away any hunters beneath it and causing a sleep-inducing fog to linger in the area.

Quickly evade away from the Ripclaw just as it hits the ground, then use a Spring Karakuri to reposition away from the somnolent smoke if necessary.

Flying Attacks

Flying Attack Variations
Flying Beak Lunge: While in the air, the Ripclaw lowers its head before rapidly lunging toward the hunter, dealing heavy damage on contact. Quickly evade sideways just as the kemono lunges, or use a Spring Karakuri to avoid getting hit by this attack.
Flying Cone Volley: While in the air, the Ripclaw fires a barrage of cones toward the hunter, staggering them and dealing moderate damage on contact. To deal with this attack, slip under the kemono as it fires the cones or dodge away from the impact zone of each projectile as they land.
Rapid Dive: While in the air, the Ripclaw rolls its neck before rapidly diving beak-first toward the hunter, landing on its feet afterward. When it performs this move, dodge sideways just as the Ripclaw dives toward you to avoid getting hit.

This attack has a subtle tell and comes out quite fast, so always pay attention to the kemono's head while it flies.

Tree Summon

Tree Summon Attack Information
Tree Summon: Like the Dreadclaw, when the Ripclaw becomes enraged, it summons a tree surrounding itself for defense and obstruction against hunters. Keep your distance from the kemono and try to build up your weapon gauge, if possible, while it performs this attack.
